The Woman Who Came In From the Night

The second of Picasso's two full-length plays from the 1940s, Les Quatre Petites Filles, has been translated by Jerome Rothenberg from work he started a few years ago. The passage that Rothenberg uploaded on Poems and Poetics is witty and lovely, evoking Mac Wellman's play Jennie Richee and Ashbery's Girls on the Run. We'd love to read the complete play, but perhaps the Henry Darger connection is too obvious. Note from the translator: Although there may not be as much flash as in the more well-k

ONCE WAS I

Once was I in love, When I spent all my time in that love, Love that bored no fruits, Yet I didn't recognize this, For I had nobody to tell me, Until today I got myself to know. Once was I in those parties, Parties that I attended daily, Accompanied by all friends, Friends that gave no advice Yet I kept them, Just for friendships. Once was I very strong, Physically and mentally indeed, Strong like a lion Powerful like Samson, But today, Once was I. Once was more time I spent, Not in hard work, B

World unity

In a world so vast, we all reside, Under the same sun and stars, side by side. With colors, cultures, and dreams so diverse, Together we weave this cosmic verse. Amidst the chaos, let love be our guide, A bridge to connect, to heal, and to confide.

DEATH (TRIBUTE TO GRANDMOTHER)

Death which brings sorrows and pain to mankind .it has no respect on man. Neither to the poor nor to the rich. It rubs like a thief. Day after Day ,My heart breaks and pricks,Hearing that the dearest person in my heart is dead. Death is a silent killer,it doesn't give permission ,it comes like a thief at night. My heart pricks cos the one i call my backbone is no more. My heart solicit for guidance, cos one who has been there for me during thick and thorns is no more . one whom has been m

Conqueror

With sword in hand and heart afire, The conqueror sets out to win, To build an empire, reach higher, And prove that he's a force within. He marches on with steadfast might, Through deserts, mountains, raging seas, His will unbroken, shining bright, He sets his sights on victory. He battles foes with skill and grace, And never once does he retreat, For he is driven by the chase, Of glory and of triumph sweet. He claims new lands with every step, And builds a legacy so grand, His name a legend, ha

Goodness

Goodness, thou art the soul of all that's fair, The charm, the grace, the light of all things here: In thee the sun his glorious splendors wears, And in thy beams the moon her silver tears; The flowers their beauty from thy hand derive, And in thy smile the birds their carols give; The gentle zephyrs at thy breath rejoice, And all the groves in harmony rejoice; The ocean in thy presence calms its waves, And in thy light the stars their beauty save; The earth, the air, the sky, all nature speaks

Torment

The tears we shed are not only that of pain. It might be of torment. The torment of not knowing the unknown. We are scared of things that are yet to come. Things that are yet to form. Some might hide, and some might run. But it will always come just for fun. It lurks in the shadows, driving you insane. It enjoys the torment, it thinks it's a game. It feeds off the pain. You can only pray. We all have that fear. Some call it anxiety, and some call pain.

I am always deeply moved by the beauty and resilience of people with black skin.

In the tapestry of ebony hues, A symphony of grace and resilience, The people of ebony skin, A portrait of strength and brilliance. Their souls adorned with rich history, Stories etched in every line and curve, Through struggles and triumphs, They radiate a beauty that preserves. From the rhythm of their laughter, To the wisdom in their eyes, Their spirit dances with resilience, Underneath vast African skies.

The Fallen drop of tears

Perhaps, You’re unknown of the price. Although just a solitary droplet from a molten heart It has touched the earth with a thousand words within. As it scatters laden with soil Let the breeze come and touch you. In the dark night when the moon is nowhere to be seen, The world seeks for its beam. When the lonely wind touches me The lightning within my heart Tries to come out in the world. My heart always in fear of the fall…..! With the dew from the Himalayas Play my longing eyes This ever flowin

He Wants for the Fabrics of Paradise

Had I the sky's weaved fabrics, Enwrought with brilliant and silver light, The blue and the faint and the dull fabrics Of night and light and the half light, I would spread the materials under your feet … One of Yeats' short show-stoppers, this sonnet is quite possibly of his generally renowned and broadly anthologised verse: 'Be cautious since you track on my fantasies.' It's a flawlessly expressive urging to be dealt with compassionate by one to whom one has swore one's life and heart. It was
