IN MEMORY OF ALL LOST DADS

Losing a parent when you've barely even had a chance to know them is just something else I cannot comprehend. I lost my papa just before I turned a year old. The only memory I have of him is photos...he only had 3 existing photos left behind. I feel and know I love him;...the resemblance and the smile he left portray the hero that brought me to this world. Every Father's Day is a celebration and a moment of silence for the man I did not get a chance to pay my last respect to. I know life would have been better and different if he was present. My life choices would be guided just by the presence of his being. My family would not be broken at such a fragile age. All I can ask is "Why so soon Daddy?" I know someone else was shattered more than I could ever be....My Mama. I write this because her strength has held us two as a family and raised a strong woman inside. Her hard work and sacrifices have broken boundaries. MAY ALL THE SOULS OF OUR LOST PAPAs REST IN ETERNAL PEACE.

The Mandate of the Artist: A Lesson from Achebe's Memoir.

I have in the past few days found myself deeply immersed in Chinua Achebe's 2012 memoir, There Was a Country: A Personal History of Biafra . While I won't attempt a comprehensive analysis or review of this work, one particular observation captured my attention amidst my reading journey. During this period, an intense online debate pitting Achebe against Soyinka emerged. Opting to steer clear of these contentious 'online wars,' I chose instead to concentrate on Achebe's book. Deeper while I read,

In a bustling city, there were two old men named Jack and Bill. They both lived long and fulfilling lives and had reached the age of 80. Despite the many challenges they faced in their lives, they remained cheerful and content. They enjoyed sitting on a bench on the street corner, observing the world around them, and chatting with each other. The life we are living, The friends we meet and the people who come in and out of our lives leave some memories, and those memories have effects that depend upon the effectiveness of the thoughts.
