Greek stage masks were made of painted, stiffened linen, which is why none have persisted to the present day. Only because theatre was so prevalent in Greek and Roman culture and models of performers and masks were created in various materials like clay, stone, and bronze and represented on jewels, in paintings, and on mosaics do we know what they looked like.
