不思議の国、ジャパン（１８)　（パウロ・ボケ） アメリカのユタ州にプロボという町があります。そこにBYU（ブリンガム・ヤング大学）という大学がありMTC(宣教師訓練センター）が設置されています。ここで若い宣教師が世界中の言葉を学び２年間の宣教師生活を送ります。 私は日本に派遣されることになり、山形県の天童市で宣教師をやっていました。その経験が後に 「日本で働きたい」 という思いを育んできました。 ATLの経験は素晴らしいものですが、私の生まれ育ったローガンのローガン中学校とは余りに違うので最初は戸惑いました。今も驚きの連続と言っていいですが、いわゆるカルチャーショックですね。 MTCの日本語の先生は、日本で宣教師をしていた元宣教師の方でした。それは、日本語だけではなくて他の国の言葉のクラスでも現地での滞在経験がある人ばかりでした。 ところが、日本に来て驚いたのは英語の先生なのに英語圏での滞在経験がある人はほとんどいません。大学で英語を学んだら、そのまま教師になっている人ばかりでした。 これは、ありえない。 私たち宣教師は２年間の日本での伝道の間に、日本語がペラペラになります。日本人が学
