Tunde would cry out during his father's rage, but his pleas were met with more harsh words and threats. "Iya Tunde was always worried," shared her friend, Funmi. Alhaji Musa, who lives next door to Amina in Kano, shares his sorrow and frustration. “I watched Amina transform from a joyful child to a shadow of her former self. They told me, ‘Ti kekere ko ba ti mọ agbọn, agba kii wo lu,’ which means, ‘If a child does not learn to respect the gourd, an elder would not be able to use it.’ They believed in harsh discipline, not understanding its destructive impact.”
