IT'S TIME I PUT THE KIBOSH ON THE CONFUSION OF THESE TWO SIMILAR WORDS

Although the two words are similar in their spellings and sounds, they are not identical and should not be used as such. While the formal is a noun which means “a thing," the later is a verb which means "an action." Yet, the two words can be distinguished by their distinct spellings and sounds.

While the formal has letter “C" in the spelling, its first syllable stressed, and ends with the sound /s/ as in ADvice /ədˈvʌɪs/; the later has letter "S" in the spelling, its second syllable stressed, and ends with the sound /z/ as in adVISE /ədˈvʌɪz/.

For example, someone can ADVISE you, but can only give you an ADVICE.
