Sultan Ahmet Mosque

One of Istanbul‘s most popular tourist attractions, the Sultan Ahmet Mosque was built between 1609 and 1617 in Turkey’s Ottoman era. It is commonly known as the Blue Mosque due to the hand-painted blue tiles decorating its interior. The Sultan Ahmet Mosque was constructed directly across from the Hagia Sophia Mosque in an attempt to rival it in beauty and size. Today it can host up to 100,000 worshipers.
