In 1973, the Nigerian Federal government alongside State embarked on a visionary journey to foster national integration and unity through the establishment of Unity Federal Government Colleges. Today, as we mark the 50th anniversary of this pivotal initiative, we extend our heartfelt commendation to the Federal Government for its steadfast commitment to promoting education and unity across diverse regions of Nigeria.

The Unity Federal Government Colleges, including the esteemed Federal Government Girls College Calabar, have played a significant role in shaping the minds of young Nigerians, fostering a sense of national pride and understanding. The first set of Unity Schools, comprising institutions such as Federal Government College Sokoto, Federal Government Girls College Onitsha, Federal Government College Kano, Federal Government College Enugu, Federal Government College Ilorin, Federal Government College Idoani, Federal Government Girls College Benin City, Federal Government Girls College Owerri and Federal Government Girls College Bauchi.

These Unity Federal Government Colleges were established to provide quality education to students from diverse backgrounds and regions of Nigeria, fostering a sense of national unity and aim to be a network of promoting integration and understanding among the country's youth stand as pillars of excellence in education.

Federal Government Girls College Calabar, in particular, has been a beacon of feminine graces, nurturing young minds and celebrating the unique bond that ties its alumnae together. As the institution marks its 50th anniversary under the theme "Our Almamatar, Our Pride," it exemplifies the enduring commitment to providing quality education and instilling values that transcend geographical boundaries.

We extend a special invitation to the Honorable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, a distinguished alumna of Federal Government Girls College Calabar. Dr. Betta Edu's journey from student to a leader in public service is a testament to the transformative power of education.

As we celebrate this milestone, we call on the Federal and State governments to join forces in supporting, promoting, and celebrating the great passion and commitment exhibited by the Unity Federal Government Colleges. These institutions serve as bridges that connect the diverse tapestry of Nigeria, fostering a sense of national pride and unity among the youth.
