ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table

 witnessed another significant change after England produced a dominant performance against Pakistan in the first Test at Headingley. England defeated Pakistan by an innings and 103 runs inside three days, giving their campaign a much-needed boost while pushing Pakistan back to the bottom of the standings.

The result has increased the pressure on Pakistan, while England’s hopes of climbing higher in the 

 remain alive despite their difficult start to the championship cycle.

England Beat Pakistan by an Innings and 103 Runs

England delivered a comprehensive performance in the first Test at Headingley. Pakistan were dismissed for just 171 in their first innings, after which England scored 409 to establish a commanding 238-run lead.

Pakistan's batting collapsed again in the second innings, with the visitors bowled out for 135. Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue were among England's leading performers, while Jofra Archer also made important contributions with the ball.

The victory marked Joe Root's return to full-time Test captaincy with an emphatic win and gave England 12 valuable WTC points before the second Test of the series.

After England's victory, Australia continued to occupy the top position, while South Africa and New Zealand remained second and third respectively. Bangladesh stayed fourth, followed by India in fifth place.

The standings reflect the situation immediately after the 

England's victory improved their points tally, but it was not enough to move them out of seventh position. They now have five wins from 14 matches and a points percentage of 

Their position highlights how difficult the beginning of their WTC campaign has been. England have suffered eight defeats and also received 14 points in deductions, making it difficult to close the gap on the teams competing near the top of the table.

However, the Headingley victory could become an important turning point. With more Tests still remaining in the cycle, England have an opportunity to improve their PCT through a consistent run of results.

Pakistan suffered the biggest setback from the result. Their defeat reduced their points percentage to 

, placing them ninth in the WTC standings.

Pakistan have now won two of their seven Tests and lost five. Their poor position means the remaining matches of their WTC campaign have become increasingly important.

The upcoming Test at Lord's gives Pakistan an immediate opportunity to respond. Another defeat would make their qualification prospects even more challenging.
