 As Hon. Lawrence Etta Dedicates Award to Cross River Sports Commission, Pledges Greater Support for Rovers and Pelican Stars

The Rovers/Pelican Stars Supporters Club has presented with Extraordinary Award to the Chairman of the Cross River State Sports Commission, Lawrence Etta, in appreciation of his outstanding contributions, dedication, and unwavering support toward the development of football, youth empowerment, and the overall progress of sports in Cross River State.

The award presentation ceremony took place on March 12, 2026, at the iconic U. J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar. The recognition was presented by the President of the Rovers/Pelican Stars Supporters Club, Harrison Richard alongside members of the organization.

While receiving the award, Hon. Lawrence Etta expressed deep appreciation to the supporters’ club for recognizing his efforts barely three months after assuming office as Chairman of the Cross River State Sports Commission. He described the recognition as both humbling and motivating, noting that it would inspire him to continue working tirelessly for the advancement of sports in the state.

The Sports Commission Chairman also extended his gratitude to the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, and the First Lady, Eyoanwan Otu, for giving him the opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Commission. He assured them and the people of Cross River State that he would remain committed to delivering on the mandate entrusted to him.

Hon. Etta emphasized that both Rovers FC and Pelican Stars remain very dear to the heart of the state government, adding that plans are already underway to reposition the clubs for greater success. According to him, the government is determined to ensure that the teams regain their pride of place and make Cross Riverians proud once again.

He further dedicated the award to all members of the Cross River State Sports Commission, acknowledging their collective efforts and teamwork in driving the vision of sports development across the state.

The recognition by the supporters club highlights the growing confidence and support for the leadership of Hon. Lawrence Etta as he continues to steer the affairs of sports administration in Cross River State.
