Llamas ( Lama glama ) are domesticated South American animals known for their calm demeanor, thick wool, and unique appearance. Native to the high Andes Mountains—primarily in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Chile—llamas have been a vital part of Andean culture and livelihood for thousands of years. They are closely related to alpacas, vicuñas, and guanacos, all members of the camelid family, but are distinct in their size and use.
