ROVERS FC IN HISTORIC 3-2 WIN AGAINST ABS OF  KWARA: STILL NEEDS SUPPORT FOR TEAM’S REVIVAL

Rovers FC, the pride of Cross River State, showcased incredible determination and skill as they secured a thrilling 3-2 victory against their opponents in Kwara State. This remarkable win brought immense joy and pride to Cross Riverians, proving that the team remains a force to reckon with.  

However, the victory celebration was dampened by a recurring issue that has plagued the team for years—lack of proper resources. After enduring a grueling two-day journey from Calabar to Ilorin, the team faced yet another hardship when their outdated and unreliable team bus broke down in Edo State in the middle of nowhere in the night on the return trip.  Causing tension and excruciating experience by the players and the technical crew in an unsafe highway. 

Thanks to the swift intervention of the team’s chairman, Mr. Etim Okon, who in his sick bed immediately sent money upon being informed by Team Manager Mr. Oyom, the bus was repaired, allowing the team to complete their journey. The chairman’s quick response is highly commendable, but the incident highlights the urgent need for a sustainable solution.  

Rovers FC continues to operate under severe financial constraints. The current subvention of just ₦5 million is far from sufficient to meet the team’s needs in an increasingly competitive football landscape. The team bus, which has seen better days, frequently breaks down, causing delays, discomfort, and added expenses.  

These challenges take a toll on the players, coaching staff, and technical crew, who give their all on the pitch despite these adverse conditions. With Rovers FC striving to regain its place in Nigeria’s Premier League, it is crucial to address these issues immediately.  

For Rovers FC to thrive and reclaim its glory, significant support is required. A new team bus is a necessity, not a luxury. It will ensure that the players and Technical staff can travel safely and comfortably to away games, allowing them to focus on their performance rather than worrying about logistical  hurdles.  

Moreover, an increase in subvention is critical. The current funding is insufficient to cover the team’s operational costs, player welfare, technical crew, and other essential requirements for a professional football team. Without improved financial support, the team’s ability to compete at the highest level will remain hindered.  

This is a clarion call to the Cross River State government, private organizations, and well-meaning individuals to come together and support Rovers FC. Here’s how you can help:  

1. SPONSOR A NEW BUS: Local businesses and corporations can partner with Rovers FC to provide a reliable team bus.  

Community members and football enthusiasts can push for a substantial increase in the team’s subvention. 

Donations, sponsorships, and partnerships can help improve the team’s overall welfare and performance.  

Rovers FC is more than just a football team; it is a symbol of pride and unity for Cross Riverians. The players and staff have shown remarkable resilience, and with the right support, they can achieve even greater heights.  

As Team Rovers finally returned to Calabar after their ordeal, one thing remains clear—this iconic team needs our help to succeed. Let’s rally together to provide Rovers FC with the tools they need to thrive and bring back the glory days of Cross River football.
