HON. ETTA LAWRENCE:A LEADER DRIVING CHANGE THROUGH SPORTS AND COMMUNITY WELFARE IN CROSS RIVER STATE

Hon. Etta Lawrence, widely known as "Pikin Wey Love Him Mama Well Well," is a compassionate leader and sports advocate whose unwavering commitment to youth development, community welfare and sports excellence has made him a prominent figure in Cross River State. As the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River State on Sports Development, Hon. Lawrence is driving impactful initiatives that leverage sports to transform lives and foster unity.

A proud indigene of Mbeban village in Akamkpa II Constituency of Cross River State, Hon. Lawrence has distinguished himself through his exemplary leadership, community engagement and tireless advocacy for the less privileged. Guided by the values instilled in him by his mother, Her Excellency Bishop (Dr.) Mrs Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, Hon. Lawrence has become a champion for market women and a source of hope for young people in the state.

In Sports Infrastructure Development, Hon. Lawrence has been instrumental in the modernization and expansion of sports facilities across the state, creating world-class environments for athletes to train and compete.

He initiated programs that have discovered and nurtured young talents, many of whom now represent the state at national and international levels.

Financial Motivation for Athletes and Officials

During the National Youth Games in Asaba and Delta State, Hon. Lawrence demonstrated his commitment to athletes and officials by offering financial incentives :

1. #4,000 each to the 150 athletes and N5,000 each to all the officials.

2. Additional rewards to medalists, with N10,000 for each gold medalist, N5,000 for each silver medalist and N2,500 for each bronze medalist.

On behalf of His Excellency, Hon. Lawrence has donated trophies and provided financial support to various competitions events :

2. A trophy to the Correctional Center at Afukang Prison.

3. A trophy to the 8 Miles Youth Football Competition.

4. Cash awards to the Table Tennis Association during their December competition.

Through mentorship, scholarships and financial support, Hon. Lawrence empowers young people, using sports as a tool to instill discipline, confidence and self-reliance.

Hon. Lawrence is a fearless advocate for market women, continually working to improve their welfare and economic stability, strictly under the outstanding sponsorship of his mother ( Her Excellency, Bishop Dr.Mrs Eyoawon Bassey Otu), earning the trust and admiration of all.
