AND OUR DEAR MOTHER HER EXCELLENCY REV (MRS) EYOANWAN BASSEY OTU.

While it is traditional to offer congratulations on anniversaries, this congratulations is not informed simply by expedience or custom. Our message of congratulations is driven by a sense of awe and gratitude to God for giving Cross River State a governor who fits perfectly with the yearnings of Cross Riverians.

What did Cross Riverians yearn for? What did they besought God for in their various prayer gatherings and solemn assemblies? What was their deepest cry? For what did they groan as women in labour? Simply, Cross Riverians needed not a champion from outer space, nor a superhuman of mythical fame. We needed someone who fears God and loves righteousness. And that we got in the person of His Excellency Senator Prince Otu our father. The symbolic steps you have taken in your first year in office, your humility, your openness, your accessibility all point to the irrefutable fact that God indeed has looked unto us with favour and has answered our prayers.

Space would not allow us to itemise the many projects you have undertaken. We cannot recount many abandoned and inaccessible streets that you have provided well-paved tarmac roads. Potholes and deadly craters that ensnared our highways were tackled and erased. The mountains of obnoxious litters that characterised major roads and streets in Calabar and its environs, degrading the State as the cleanest in Nigeria into a execrable eye sore disappeared in your first month in office. 

With your clear and often verbalised realisation that the spiritual orchestrate the physical, you have demonstrated in your private and public devotion that the Most High God be enthroned in Cross River State. 

Consequently, you have commissioned even artistic representations of the Bible and other strong and unequivocal Christian symbolisms in public places in the state as to restore Cross River State to her Christian foundation.

During your political campaigns, Cross Riverians were promised sweetness.  Sweetness cannot thrive where fear pervades. Sweetness cannot abide where criminals operate with impunity. But with the help of the Most High God, the one who gives the capacity and the power to will and do after His good pleasure, you have restored hope, mitigated fear and made it impossible for criminals to operate with reckless impunity. Yes, thanks to God, sweetness is pervading everywhere.

Moreso, God has highly favoured Cross Riverians with a First Lady, who is not only your friend and partner in the mission of progress and sweetness, but also your prayer partner, who shares your dreams, your vision and mission. She has shown humaneness, love, compassion, tenderness and spirituality in her interactions with Cross Riverians irrespective of their statuses and estates. She is a light and a rare blessing to Crossriverians. She is the voice of the unvocal. The Icon of Humanity.

One year is just the beginning. We trust that God on whom we depend, who you have severally and publicly declared as the true Governor of the State,  will give you help, strength and wisdom to make Cross River State prosperous, peaceful and attractive.
