The Metropolitan Hotel in Calabar was abuzz with anticipation as the press conference for MTN CHAMPS Season 2 unfolded on the 29th of April, 2024. The event, set to culminate in the highly awaited Grand Finale at the U.J. Esuene Stadium from April 30th to May 3rd, promises to be an electrifying showcase of Nigerian talents.

1. Brands, Media and Sponsorship, MTN Nigeria – Friday Okuwe; 
2. ⁠Hon. Agnes Atsu-The Commissioner Cross River State Ministry for Sports Development – The representative of His Excellency Sen. Prince Bassey Otu
3. Director of Administration, Ministry of Education, Cross River  – Mr Augustine Odey (representing the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Senator Stephen Odey);

4. Vice-President of the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF) – Pastor Emmanuel Ebong;
5. Commissioner for Sports Development, Cross River – Hon Agnes Atsu;

Hon. Agnes Atsu, the Commissioner for Sports, expressed gratitude to MTN for selecting Calabar as the venue for the 2nd edition of the event. She elaborated on the aspirations of His Excellency,

Sen. Bassey Otu, the Governor of Cross River State, for the sports industry.
According to the Commissioner for sports development. Cross river State have one of the best facilities in Nigeria  for Track and field and she promised that the Cross River State Government is giving the organizers the support the need for a successful event. 

Adia Sowho, Chief Marketing Officer of MTN, highlighted the significance of Calabar in athletics history,

with over 2,300 athletes hailing from the city alone out of the 7,000 participants from across the six geopolitical zones. 

These athletes, fueled by months of hard work and dedication, are ready to showcase their prowess on the grand stage.

A special mention was made of the 70 athletes selected from previous locations who will compete in the Calabar Grand Finale as Team MVP, a testament to MTN's dedication to nurturing talent and celebrating achievements.

The event is not only about competition but also about honoring the countless hours of training, moments of triumph, and the bonds forged through a shared love of athletics.
