Google is testing a computerized watermark to detect pictures made by man-made reasoning (artificial intelligence) in a bid to battle disinformation.

Created by DeepMind, Google's simulated intelligence arm, SynthID will recognize pictures produced by machines.

It works by implanting changes to individual pixels in pictures so watermarks are undetectable to the natural eye, however perceivable by PCs.

However, DeepMind said it isn't "secure against outrageous picture control".

As the innovation develops, it is turning out to be progressively more mind boggling to differentiate between genuine pictures and falsely created ones - as BBC Bitesize's man-made intelligence or Genuine test shows.
