The Bible is not about a religion, it's a memo from heaven to review to us His plan for planet earth and for His impact to Human Kind on earth. Jesus mission statement is in Matthew 4:7 we need to understand that: God wanted to extend His Kingdom on Earth, Adam lost a Kingdom (the Dominion of God on earth).

Let us be alive to this fact: the only things people in the old testament up to John the Baptist were teaching: Law and  the writings of the prophets according to Luke 16:16. Always remember when you read the old testament from Joshua to Malachi, all you are dealing with is the: the preparation and announcement of the coming of the : King (Messiah) who is coming to restore what Adam lost. Luke 24:45 "Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures," that means that: every prophet, every judge, every King was part of the preparation in the coming of Jesus

The Law and the Prophets refers to the celemonial laws that were laid out to Moses to give to the priests concerning the: tabernacle the act of attracting of the presence of God on earth, men reaching out to God and all the laws in the old testament, that's what Jesus is referring to. Note: the first pendetute (five) books of the bible (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers Deuteronomy). These books contain the laws and after them comes the Prophets; from Joshua all the way to Marachi are books of prophecy about the Messiah
