Declan Rice has had a stormer of a debut season with Arsenal with some hailing him as the signing of the season - but it's not an opinion rival fans share

Arsenal fans have hailed Declan Rice as the signing of the season after the midfielder found the net in a second consecutive game.

The England star opened the scoring for the Gunners on Saturday (March 9) in their home clash against Brentford just five days after he bagged in Arsenal's mammoth 6-0 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed his best goal-scoring season of his career with five goals for Arsenal on top of his stellar performances which has seen fans of the North London club showering him with praise and labelling him the signing of the season.

One fan took to X (formerly Twitter) and stated: "DECLAN RICE IS THE SIGNING OF THE SEASON" while another Arsenal supporter added: "Declan Rice is the signing of the season without a doubt, not a single poor game, goals, assists and pure leadership. he is world class!"

However, their thoughts on Rice haven't been supported by rival fans who named a few other players who are ahead of the midfielder in the conversation for signing of the season.

One X user suggested: "Palmer, Kane, Bellingham, Maddison, Endo> still ahead him" while another shouted out Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister as they wrote: "Alexis Mac Allister’s consistency isn’t talked about enough. The signing of the season".

Rice has already established himself as a fan favourite at the Emirates as he opened up about his favourite moment in an Arsenal shirt since arriving at the club last summer in a whopping £105million deal from West Ham.

"The goal against Man United or against Luton Town in the last minute,” he said in an interview with the Arsenal website. "It was the last kick of the game. As soon as they kicked off the ref blew the whistle. It was 3-3 and we needed to win and to score the winner… those moments, that feeling, you just can’t recreate it."

He added: "It’s the best ever. That Man United one was unbelievable the way it all happened. They scored an offside goal and then we went up the other end, I scored and that moment of scoring your first goal and celebrating with the fans… what a day that was as well."
