Lalbag Kella is a 17th-century fort located in the city of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was originally built by the Mughal Subahdar of Bengal, Shaista Khan, in 1678. The fort was named after his beloved daughter, Pari Bibi, whose name translates to "Fairy of the Garden". The fort was used as the residence of the Mughal governors and their families, and was the site of many important events in Mughal history, including the Barrackpore Conspiracy in 1777. During the British Raj, the fort was used as a military mess and armory and was damaged by a devastating cyclone in 1885. Today, the fort remains largely in ruin. It is now a government-run historical site, protected by the Department of Archaeology and Museums under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Fellow tourists, locals, and students often visit the fort to appreciate its impressive architecture and to immerse themselves in the rich history of Bengal.
