The issue of Kashmir refers to a long-standing conflict between India and Pakistan over the region of Jammu and Kashmir, which is located in the northern part of India and the western part of Pakistan. The conflict has its roots in the partition of India in 1947 and the subsequent disputes over the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, which was ruled by a Hindu Maharaja but had a majority Muslim population. The conflict has resulted in several wars between India and Pakistan and has caused widespread human suffering and social and economic disruption in the region. The issue remains unresolved and continues to be a source of tension between the two countries, Pakistan and India.
