The history of the first world war
The First World War, also known as World War I, occurred from 1914 to 1918. It was triggered by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary in 1914. The war involved major powers forming two alliances: the Allies (including France, Russia, and the UK) and the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire).
The conflict featured trench warfare on the Western Front, while the Eastern Front saw more fluid movement.
