COMMISSIONER ATSU PLEDGES SPORTS DEVELOPMENT REVAMP FOLLOWING GOVERNOR'S CUP THRILLER

The Sweet Prince Cup, a pivotal event in the ongoing Cross River State Governor's Cup competition, concluded with an exhilarating match between the finale teams, Bakassi and Ikom. 

With a goal from Ikom's number 7 player just 15 minutes into the match, the competition was fierce, leading to a 1-1 score at the end of the first half.

The event saw commendable on-field performances and celebrated figures, particularly as Commissioner for Information Erasmus Ekpang, Commissioner for Sports Development Agnes Atsu, and PS Sports Development Samuel Egbala awarded an honorary batch to the center referee, Dr. Irabor Odey. 

The momentum shifted in the second half, with Bakassi's player number 7 scoring a

noteworthy goal and a subsequent substitution leading to another goal from player number 11, ultimately securing Bakassi's victory with a 2-1 score against Ikom.


Following the riveting competition, Bakassi emerged as the winner of the 2023 Governor's Football Competition, receiving a sum of 2.5 million naira, while Ikom claimed the 2nd runner-up position with 1.5 million naira.

Prince 7, recognized for their dedication and hard work, was awarded 1 million naira as the 1st runner-up. 

Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Agnes Atsu, expressed her gratitude to the state governor, Sen Prince Bassey Edet Otu, for his focus on sports and pledged to revamp sports activities both within the state and beyond.

The SA General Duties, Barr. Akiba Ekpenyong, lauded the burgeoning future of the sports sector, signifying a promising new chapter for sports in the state, 

As the event concluded with the presentation of medals and cash prizes to deserving teams, among other recognitions.
