Baskadia

The curtains open to Mr. Balbir's drawing-room, which is furnished with plush carpets and beautifully carved antique furniture. It is 8 pm. Mr. Balbir is sitting on the velvet sofa and smoking a pipe when he hears the bell ring. He goes to the other side of the stage and opens the door and Mr. Vinay comes rushing in. He looks extremely elated and proud of himself.

Mr. Vinay (grinning): You will not believe what happened.

Mr. Balbir: You are all smiles, so I am guessing it must be something good.

Mr. Vinay: You are right. So what happened was that…

Mr. Balbir (interrupting him): First calm down. Have a seat. Then we shall talk.

(They sit down and talk. Their voice is not audible to the audience for a while and then...)

Mr. Balbir (standing up in excitement): That is great news! Does that mean that you have become the most successful dealer for secondhand cars in the whole country?

Mr. Vinay (fisting up in the air): Yes!

Mr. Balbir (excitedly): This calls for a celebration. Champagne!
