Ronnie O'Sullivan celebrates £250k UK Championship win with fag at bus stop

He may have banked himself another £250,000, but snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan proved to the sporting world that he is a man of humble tastes

Snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan was spotted having a cigarette at the bus stop just days after his UK Championship victory.

O'Sullivan, 47, became the youngest and oldest winner of the competition when he overcame Ding Junhui at the Barbican Centre in York. It was a tense encounter which finished with O'Sullivan edging the Chinese talent 10-7.

His 40th career title came exactly 30 years after he became the youngest ever winner of the competition when he saw off Stephen Hendry in 1997. Despite being another £250,000 richer from his victory in York, O'Sullivan was in no mood for some Cuban cigars at the beach.

A video posted by a fan of the Rocket wrapped up warm in a big coat, a beanie hat and a lit cigarette in his hand emerged on social media. The delighted fan could not believe his eyes when he saw the snooker World No.1 at a bus stop, calling him "the real legend of snooker champions" and "blessed boy", adding: "I can't believe I met you."

Naturally, O'Sullivan smiled awkwardly and shared a laugh with the delighted supporter. And when the clip was shared online, one fan commented: "The best snooker player and one of the best British sportsman of all time, who just received a cheque for 250k yesterday, seen at a bus stop with a fag!"

The brief exchange demonstrated why he is one of the most popular athletes in the country. It also showed how down to earth the Midlander is in comparison with other high profile sportsmen and woman in the United Kingdom.

"It wasn’t great but it was alright," he admitted. "I stuck in there, focused, used my head tonight. I thought I had to at least make Ding earn it if he’s going to beat me. I felt a bit of sabotage coming in this afternoon, just got a bit frustrated.

"But it’s been like that all week really. I felt I played snooker like Seve Ballesteros played golf; I’m in and out of trees, all over the gaff. It catches up with you after a while, it’s quite draining."
