Suriname arises as a slave colony Suriname part Guyana: area between the Amazon and Orinocco estuaries. During the war between the Dutch Republic and Great Britain (1665-1667) Zeeland conquers the British colony of Suriname ? at the Peace of Breda stipulates that Suriname would become Dutch possession, so the Dutch exchanged New Amsterdam (New York) for Suriname. From 1667, Suriname remained in Dutch possession for almost three centuries. In 1682 Zeeland sells Suriname to the West India Company (WIC). Year later sold on to Geoctroyeerde Sociëteit van Suriname (jointly owned WIC, city of Amsterdam and a wealthy private individual).
