C'River Speaker, Ayambem, Hails Rovers Of Calabar; Gifts Cash Price To Goal Scorer And The Team..
...Says Government Is Committed To The Improvement Of Sports In The State.
Speaker Of The Cross River State House Of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, on Sunday, 19th November, 2023 cheered the Rovers Of Calabar Football Team to victory at their Nigeria National League(NNL) 2023/24 Season Opener game against Stormers Sports Club of Abeokuta.
The match which held at the U.J Esuene Stadium, in Calabar, gathered thousands of supporters across the state who came to charge Rovers FC to give their best in the pitch of play.
The speaker and his wife, Mrs. Nelly Elverts Ayambem , who were present to motivate them, also register their support as they were caught jumping joyously at the VIP stand after the Rovers FC midfielder, Jesam Joecare, broke the deadlock at the 84th minute of the match with a beautifully dreadful finish that helped the Rovers Of Calabar secure a 1:0 victory against Stormers FC on their first game of the league.
Speaking with pressmen shortly after the game, the speaker revealed that he was impressed by the level of disciplined and dedicated talents he watched on the pitch. He added that he has been a Rovers Supporter from childhood, as he recounted the glory days of the club and wishes them speedy promotion to the Nigerian Professionals Football League(NPFL).
He commended the Commissioner For Sports Development, Hon. Agnes Atsu, and the entire management Team of Rovers FC, for their hardwork in building and preserving of the states football pride.
Ayambem, shortly after encouraging the visiting team, Stormers FC, interfaced with the Players of Rovers Of Calabar FC, where he assured them of his personal support and government's commitment to improve sports and also see to their needs, so as to help boost their efforts in the game. He added that the entire state is watching them now, and it is therefore necessary for them to represent the state well and in turn encourage supporters who have long given up on watching them play due to poor display and the he was happy to see them bounce back like they did with the just concluded game.
Finally, as a way to motivate the team, the speaker gifted the goal scorer with a sum of Fifty Thousand Naira(N50,000) and also gave out a sum of a Hundred And Fifty Thousand Naira(N150,000) ,as support to the team, adding that he was impressed and hopes to watch more victories for the Rovers FC, in the games ahead.
