I OLUWO ADEKUNLE HAMEED an indigene of Ososa, Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State. A graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-Iwoye with call up no. NYSC/OUA/2009/405881 and state reg No. CR,/09A/1407, having officially passed out of NYSC in February 2010 and earning Cross River State NYSC honor/Governor's Award of Excellence.
The NYSC honor/Governor's Award was attached with State government Automatic employment which my parents asked me to accept as I got back home (lagos).
On returning back to Cross River State precisely Calabar to process the Automatic employment, my former LOCAL INSPECTOR DURING NYSC ( Mrs Akomolafe Augusta) handed over a shop she was vacating to me to be doing my SHOEMAKING WORK pending the call up for State government job.
Mrs Akomolafe Augusta saw my exploit while I was doing VOLUNTARY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SERVICE during my service year, Then, I built a new WORK SHOP ,trained 5boys( host community) shoemaking work free of charge and finally EMPOWER them with a start-up.
However, after few months (May 2010) , in the shoemaking work while still awaiting State government job, I decided to forgo the state Civil service job and embark on NATIONAL SELFLESS SERVICE something bigger than COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SERVICE because I discovered youths low attitude towards learning handwork in Calabar.
With the discovery, I introduced " LEARN WORK AND GET PAID MONTHLY".
I pasted the notice around the area.
I started with 2boys (Emmanuel obeten and Isaac), Train them shoemaking and leather work free of charge, pay them monthly salary equivalent to the Salary of sales boy/restaurant attendant which was more popular back then. Apart from that, I offer them lunch and sometimes transport fare so as to make them cool their head and learn work well.
Training period was a year and as year passed by, salary amount increased. More boys were involved as some were graduating.
It was not easy, but with determination, I kept on going. At a point when going get tough, I decided to ask interested parents to register their children with token amount to support us especially as regards lunch..
Training the good, the bad and the ugly was tough, stubbornness and low seriousness were 2 major obstacles I encountered. I love the community development service I did during official NYSC year so I was determined to expand it. I saw area where youth have low attitude towards learning work, I also saw STREET KIDDIES (SKOLOMBO) roam and live on the street ( no orientation), all these motivated me to forgo state government job and start shoemaking work where I can train and offer assistance to the community.
I wrote a letter to the honourable NDIDEM PALACE to request for boys to be trained free of charge, no boy was willing to learn SHOEMAKING WORK. Perhaps, maybe they don't like the job.
Assembly of God church was opposite my work-shop @ 28b Ndidem Usang Iso road Marian Calabar, boys from the Church made up highest number of boys trained, Clement, Goodwin, Chike, Josiah and God's lead are all members of Assembly of God Church.
As a Muslim, no RELIGION SENTIMENT AT ALL.. All boys trained were pure Christian. The only Muslim boy sent to me by EASTERN NAVY COMMAND MOSQUE AKIM CALABAR by name Jemilu, was not serious and later disappeared.
Apart from free training of youths, I also made yearly Donations of SCHOOL SANDALS to best students in junior and secondary sections of SPECIAL STUDENT EDUCATION CENTER in Ibom Layout to support the School.
Below is the list of boys trained (not all) for the period of 13years of SELFLESS SERVICE apart from the 5boys trained during the official NYSC service year.

2 Isaac from Akampa
3 Nneji Simon from Ikom

Those Ex militant were sent to me by state government amnesty program. They were more than willing to learn. Yes, they were surprised to hear am a university graduate and am doing shoemaking work. I changed their Orientation such that, spending money from distance Bakassi to Calabar to receive training was not barrier to them
Some street kiddies (SKOLOMBO) who after knowing me on that street and begged me for Training but I didn't because of fear of security implications are
1 Ettete
2 Daniel
3Thompson
4 Emma
5: Moses
Some of them I tried to get them back to their house, but either the father or mother was not willing to accept them back.
RECOMMENDATION
knowledge is power.
Government and more good people should organize FREE TRAINING in all areas to get more people trained and those who are trained will later be used as Trainers for others.
Training youth without empowerment with START-UP after training is painful for me.
Those trained Ex-militants can help other fellow youths out of crimes. It's matter of orientation.
Special attention is needed for Street KIDDIES, changing their mind set is very important so as to reduce future crimes. Though it pained me I didn't train one but had it being that government official or security officer is involved, I would have done that.
However, even though I have personally passed out SELFLESS SERVICE from Cross River State in September 2023 making it 14 years of NATIONAL SELFLESS SERVICE am still open for consultation 07069518084.
Relocating from Cross River State without PENSION. I chose NATIONAL SELFLESS SERVICE ahead of CROSS RIVER STATE CIVIL SERVICE AUTOMATIC EMPLOYMENT, ( a pensionable job). Without much talk, I heard some parents saying it loud and clear that I OLUWO ADEKUNLE HAMEED deserve National honor from;
