The Cross River State Government has appointed Mr Bassey Ironbar an Olympian weightlifter as Technical Adviser on weightlifting. Presenting the appointment letter, the Speaker Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon Elvert said the appointment is keeping faith with his Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Otu's earlier promise of sustainably reintegrating the Olympian weightlifter Mr Ironbar.

It will be recalled that earlier it was reported that the Olympian who was in Lagos faced several challenges which came to the notice of the State Government which immediately swung into action and brought him back to the State where he is being reintegrated back into the Sports Community.

Speaking the Commissioner for Sports Development Hon Agnes Atsu said the State would tap from his wealth of experience as an Olympian weightlifter. The appointment is with effect from 1st of October 2023.

Responding, Mr Ironbar thanked the State Government for having Confidence in him and promised not to let the State down. He was later taken on a tour of the weight lifting section and other critical sections of the Sports commission.
