Review: I enjoyed reading this book. Amy was very straightforward about her feelings of fear, of the unknown, all the while going thru relationship struggles in her marriage. And even with this diagnosis, she lands her dream of a lifetime position as a top news anchor woman!
I currently have two very dear friends battling breast cancer. With a positive attitude against all odds they are praying and believing God for their miracle and are defying medical odds in their favor. I will share with them about this book as well.

Title: Bland Inspiration for Breast Cancer Fighters

Review: I identify with Amy R and some of her feelings as she went through the stages of learning and dealing with her breast cancer diagnosis. At same time, there is also a disconnect. Most women have much more tortutous journey. Rarely does one get all their imaging, test results, and see three doctors in one day (AND a therapist) and get their surgery scheduled only 2 weeks after diagnosis (especially if second opinions involved). Rarely does one with early stage breast cancer get a full PET scan to check for cancer in other areas of the body (if only we could). And rarely does one not lose hair. She cut it short in prep of losing it but was fortunate (or had some help) in not losing it. She also has the good fortune of having gobs of help at this point in her life to care for her kids and to time her release of news to her kids. Most working mothers do not have this fortune and so the experience is very different and even more choices are out of our hands.
It's almost amusing so many women who had br cancer wrote to her and sent her gifts considering she was in least need of them. THey could have better served diagnosed NY women who were in financial need. I hope Amy donated it all but she never mentions that.
She also never explains (since her CA was only 2 yrs ago and she was treated in a major hospital in NY..this would be good information for many women is more outlying areas) fully her exact staging of cancer and why treatment choice of chemo was made or node dissection when already these decisions are not black and white for early stage cancer anymore.
Some of book is definitely filler with chapters of childhood stories and condensed versions of her marriage romances some of what I am not sure what the relation is to the overall breast cancer story. Also, this is a woman who had other significant health scares and some ongoing health conditions. I find it very interesting she never thought she would be at risk for cancer but that is incidental.

Ultimately, at least she is another celebrity voice calling attention to the disease and I hear she is using her experience and status to try to raise money for working women diagnosed who have great financial burden from the treament costs, job issues, and childcare. However, it's hard to feel huge amounts of sympathy for someone who rebounded so quickly and whose life remained rather unscathed through the whole thing so I found this book only minimally inspirational.
I gain more inspiration from the woman I saw on FB a few weeks ago who had to have a bilateral mastectomy and cannot afford reconstruction, lost her home and has 8 kids and was marching shirtless to Washington to protest. Now there is someone who is experiencing true devastation.

Review: I bought this book for my wife. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2011, and we went through the most intense trauma of our life as we came to terms with her mortality. Both of our lives were turned upside down by her diagnosis and the next year fundamentally transformed our marriage for good.

As regular GMA watchers, we both identified with what Amy and Andrew went through as they dealt with their own breast cancer diagnosis, and when the book was released, I immediately bought it as a gift for my wife. As she was reading it, she could not stop talking about how much she could identify with Amy and Andrew's experience, and encouraged me to read it, too.

Both of us read the book really quickly because of what an easy read it is. We both identified with every step of the journey that Amy and Andrew went through and found Amy's exploration of her own experience totally echoed the journey we have been going through for the 5 years since my wife was diagnosed.

Amy's drive to continue in the face of such adversity is hugely inspiring. Andrew's chivalry in defense of the love of his life is the stuff of legend. The support that they provide each other through the most frightening turmoil a couple can experience is precisely what true love is about, and exactly what my wife and I experienced as we lived this journey for ourselves.

This is a terrific must-read.

Review: I loved this book simply because the story was written as if it was my life. When I was diagnosed in April 2011, it stunned me initially. I cried my eyes out for a good couple of days, no lie. I was totally inconsolable. But when I decided that the mourning and pity party was over, I got to the business of planning my next move. I automatically came to the conclusion that a Bilateral Mastectomy was the only answer for me, although it was only in one breast. So my story is pretty much like Amy's minus the chemo, radiation, Tamoxifen...And like Any, I know there's a good chance that despite all the treatment in the world, cancer can rear it's ugly head again. And you just deal with it if it does come back...I love what her husband said, and I take it in as my new mantra 'There’s no need to die before you die!'...Such good words to live by...it reminds you that life is for the living and we have to live it one day at a time...No one knows when our time is up and worrying about won't don't much but stress you out, while life passes you by. Although I know the reason why it can't happen, I do wish that I could personally talk to Ms. Robach, because our stories are so alike that I would've liked to share my story with her!
