Reasons

You might have seen abnormal behaviour in QuickBooks while performing accounting tasks. The software can stop responding or frequently crash if the following conditions occur on your PC-

1. The QBWUSER.ini or entitlementdatastore.ecml files might be damaged, which stops QBDT from running.

2. Your company file might be too long, or it might contain special characters that are against the protocols.

3. Data corruption in your system’s hard drive can also lead to internal issues in the software, which stop it from functioning normally.

Solutions

QuickBooks will stop responding to your commands and malfunction while executing accounting tasks. The easy methods to counter the issue are discussed in detail below-

Solution 1- Fix the damaged QBWUSER.ini and delete the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file

QBWUSER.ini file stores the data of all the user accounts that you use to access the company file. Whenever you open QuickBooks, it runs the file to verify your identity and falls prey to issues when it fails. The entitlementdatastore.ecml file can also stop the software from running smoothly if damaged or corrupt. You can prevent frequent crashes in the software and stop it from turning unresponsive by fixing the files using the steps given below-

1. Open the file explorer and visit C:users\username\AppData\Local\Intuit\QuickBooks(Year).

2. Right-click the QBWUSER.ini inside the folder and click Rename.

3. Add ‘.old’ as an extension in the file name without changing the rest of it.

4. Save the QBWUSER.ini.old file on your system.

After the QBWUSER.ini file is renamed, it’ll become usable for the software again. You now need to delete the entitlementdatastore.ecml file to ensure QBDT doesn’t stop responding again. The entitlementdatastore.ecml holds the information on QBDT installation in an encrypted format. All the license number and other details to complete the software installation and run it smoothly on your computer are stored in the file. You don’t need to worry, as the file will be recreated once you run QuickBooks again on your PC. Here’s a way-

1. Go to the Run window on your PC using the Windows + R keys.

2. Erase the auto-filled data and type C:\ProgramData\Intuit\EntitlementClient\V8.

3. Press Enter to open a folder or type C:\ProgramData\Intuit\EntitlementClient\V6 in the Run command if the folder doesn’t open.

4. Right-click the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file inside the folder and click Delete.

5. Tap Yes in the dialogue for confirmation and close the file explorer.

6. Open QuickBooks again on your PC.

Your QuickBooks won’t lag or stop responding after you apply the techniques on your PC.
