What do you need before you book a driving test in Dundalk?

To book your driving test in Dundalk, or anywhere else in Ireland, you need to have passed your theory test, have a learner permit, and completed Essential Driver Training. Start with the theory test (€45) at theorytest.ie then apply for your first learner permit in Ireland at the NDLS. Read the official Rules of the Road along the way. New permit holders must keep the permit for six months before taking the practical test, so book it as soon as you get it. You also need valid insurance for learner drivers, L plates, and a licensed accompanying driver. Learners sometimes underestimate this stage, but starting your theory test and permit early shortens your path to a full license, which often takes many months once waiting lists are added.

Every first-time learner needs 12 EDT lessons with an RSA-licensed driving instructor in Dundalk before their driving test.
