With the new NNL season fast approaching, the encounter will give both technical teams an opportunity to assess their players, examine different tactical options and identify areas that may require further improvement before competitive action begins.

For Rovers FC, the fixture forms part of their preparations for the 2026/27 NNL campaign as the club continues its process of building a competitive squad. The coaching crew will be looking closely at the players' fitness, discipline, tactical understanding, teamwork and ability to execute instructions under match conditions.

On the other side, Godswill Akpabio United FC will also be using the encounter as an important preparation exercise. The match provides their players with another opportunity to compete against quality opposition while the technical team continues to shape the squad ahead of the new season.

Beyond the result, pre-season matches are valuable because they allow coaches to experiment, give players opportunities to stake their claims for places in the team and create greater understanding among new and existing squad members.

The meeting also highlights the growing football connection between Cross River and Akwa Ibom, two neighbouring states with a strong football culture and passionate supporters.

With both clubs preparing for the demands of the NNL, Monday's encounter at the historic U. J. Esuene Stadium promises to be more than just another friendly. It will be a test of preparation, player capacity, tactical organisation and team readiness.
