Calabar , Nigeria – The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is on the brink of securing a historic title sponsorship agreement that could redefine the commercial landscape of domestic football in the country ahead of the 2026/27 season.
NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, has confirmed that negotiations with a prospective title sponsor are at an advanced stage, with an official announcement expected before the league's Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for August 7.
According to reports, the proposed three-year sponsorship package is valued at more than $7.5 million (over ₦10 billion), positioning it among the most significant commercial partnerships in the history of Nigerian club football.
Beyond securing naming rights, the partnership is expected to drive the league's digital transformation strategy. Plans reportedly include enhanced social media engagement, collaborations with influencers, innovative content creation, and fan-centered marketing campaigns designed to increase the league's visibility both locally and internationally.
As part of its modernization efforts, the NPFL is also set to establish a dedicated social media department to strengthen its digital footprint and improve communication with supporters. In addition, several prominent Nigerian entertainers are said to have expressed interest in supporting the league's fan engagement initiatives, further boosting its appeal among younger audiences.
Elegbeleye reiterated the league's commitment to maintaining the internationally recognized August-to-May football calendar, while urging participating clubs to complete all licensing and regulatory requirements ahead of the new season.
The anticipated sponsorship agreement signals growing confidence in the commercial potential of the NPFL and could mark the beginning of a new era of growth, professionalism, and global relevance for Nigeria's top-flight football competition.
If finalized, the deal would represent a major milestone in the league's ongoing efforts to attract investment, expand its audience, and elevate the profile of Nigerian football on the international stage.
