Cross River State Regulates Carton Waste Recycling, Bans Scavenger Trucks in Calabar
In a move to enhance regulation and efficiency in the carton waste recycling industry, the Cross River State Scrap Metal Regulatory Agency has engaged with the Association of Carton Waste Recyclers of Nigeria (ACWREDON) to streamline operations, enforce compliance, and promote sustainable waste management.
During a crucial meeting, stakeholders discussed policies aimed at aligning the scrap industry with the People’s First Mantra of His Excellency, Apostle Prince Bassey Otu, the Executive Governor of Cross River State. The regulatory agency also distributed official vests featuring the Cross River State logo and unique identification numbers to all dealers, ensuring easy verification and enhanced security.
• NEW REGULATIONS FOR SCRAP AGENCY AND SCAVENGERS:
As part of the state’s efforts to sanitize the industry and maintain order, the following new regulations have been established:
- Operational Hours: Carton dealers and recyclers are permitted to operate strictly from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with no business activities allowed on Sundays.
- Ban on Scavenger Trucks: The movement of scavenger trucks is prohibited within the Calabar metropolitan area to curb unauthorized waste collection and potential security concerns.
- Mandatory Identification: All scavengers must wear their official vests with security numbers for proper identification and monitoring.
