EXPLORING ALTERNATIVES TO CYBERCRIME FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Its becoming too obvious that bigger percentages of our youth diverting with high velocity to another

sphere of survival, which they think may serve as short cut to be become rich. The country is having

countless numbers of youngies joining the line on daily basis. They think that cybercrime might serve as

a source of living as they keep making huge money from it. Some of them made it through and fix some

business for themselves, business like big boutiques, big stores, big jewelry shops and some of it kinds.

Having this done, peer groups and friends would like to indulge in that act for better days as they have

no hope for future and they are not ready to plan for one.

It seems that our generation are not that energized or able to learn any skill that will help them in future

as a source of living. Youths of past centuries are good in farming as the story tells, there was is no

machinery those days but they keep surviving from the little they are making. They are contented with

whatever their farm gave them. They keep gathering their money which they will later fix somewhere

like building houses, buying what they needed in the farm like new home and cutlass or they will marry

if the person is single. You will hardly see them wasting money unnecessarily for any reason.

Today, there's a way of making huge money within weeks and months without stress. Through the

process, they make it and start spending extravagantly on worthless materials. To their view they are

living a good life as they can travel to wherever they want and pay their bills but from the source which

they earn is putting souls to pain, countless lives has been lost to cybercrime. They do hack people's

bank accounts, some will date online and dupe the opposite gender, many illegal acts been practiced on

the internet. The worst part is that they don't know there's other positive things that can fetch them

money on the internet without scamming or putting anyone to pain. There are legit and profitable

things to do with the internet that will help one live a better life without fear.

Multiple numbers of people in Nigeria are living a good life and feeding their families from what they

are earning from the internet. Banks, big factories and big companies are looking for good cybersecurity

personnel that is able to safeguard important data on the internet. Cybersecurity has to do with coding

as some important websites are being tampered to hack, bank customers keep bringing reports to banks

about scammers and some other important internet field that needed security. One must not study

computer science before you could do it, you can learn it as a skill from a coach in the field or a

professional in that particular field. It will take months and you will be good at it. A company or bank

can get you fixed to work for them and they will be paying you. As the nature of the work stands one

can work for two to three companies at the same time, which will earn you more money to sustain and

feed your family.

Here is another one called online mentorship and coaching, this is another way of serving the public or

organizations in a specific field. it might be educational or entrepreneur. Online mentorship and

coaching is lucrative. Here the coach or mentor will be at a spot and be lecturing thousands of students

at the same time. If you are good in mathematics, you can coach students after school hours and they

will be paying you. You can create a group for students that are interested in mathematics and they will

be joining for your lectures. You will fix a specific time for their lessons and teach them. One can even

coach learners in the field of trading (forex trading, cryptocurrency trading etc.) and many of them. You

can teach others how to trade with their phones and laptops by creating a group for them which will

earn your money as a teacher and you will be making extra money been a professional trader too. In this

place you earn as a teacher and as a trader.

One can also earn money by selling his or her work to different organizations without being employed

many of our youth are good writers (novelists and poets). When you are a good writer you can sell your

work, be it write up or drawing you can earn from it. This type of earning by selling your work to

different organizations on the internet is called freelancing. One can live a good life by being a freelancer

(selling your write ups and drawing and be making money from them).

There is another one called affiliate marketing, this has to do with business organizations. In this place

you will stay in your base (house) and be advertising goods for a company for buyers to buy. You will use

your phone and be pasting available goods in a given company for able buyers to order and buy. When

they buy the goods from the company and you are there as a referral, you will make your own profit

from the business which the company will pay you immediately. Many people are sustaining with

affiliate marketing in this country. They are sustaining from it and be feeding their families.

Some of our youth are gifted to sing or to make people happy by acting. When I was in JSS 1 there is a

boy that is very good in singing, he sings sweet and meaningful songs but he ended up with nothing and

the career been wasted because he's not advanced to the internet. Today all the musical artists have an

application like Volloco, Boom play, Audio mark, bandit etc. where they record and paste their songs

where it will be accessible to the public Some people use Facebook to paste their songs and people will

be following them on the internet. When you are determined and creative, many users will be

interested to listen (stream) to your music which will be adding money to your bank account and you

will be sustaining from there.

You must no engage in cybercrime before you could make money from the internet as there are many

lucrative things to do with your phone or laptop that can earn your money for sustaining yourself and

live a good life without putting souls in pain.
