Prince Bassey Edet Otu’s the Governor of Cross River state strong commitment to youth development and empowerment during the NYCN Gorilla Football Tournament held in Boki as part of the New Yam Festival celebrations.

While presenting cash prizes to the tournament winners in Calabar, Dr. Kijuo conveyed the Governor's goodwill and support for initiatives aimed at developing youth in sports and other vital areas. The tournament, organized by Comr. Douglas Ekiewa Chairman of the Boki NYCN, was praised for its historic significance in uniting the youth of Boki. Mr. Itanya Etta Lawrence, the SSA to the Governor on Sports Development, also expressed gratitude to the organizers, noting that such activities facilitate his work and assure the Boki Gorilla team of further opportunities in state competitions and beyond.

Comr. Douglas Ekiewa Jnr, the tournament's lead organizer, emphasized that the primary goal of the football competition was to foster peace and camaraderie among the youth of Boki, a goal that was successfully achieved. He extended his thanks to Governor Otu for his unwavering dedication to youth development and acknowledged the financial support from WCS and other individuals that made the event possible.

In a thrilling finale, Landers Football Club from Isobendeghe claimed the championship title, taking home a cash prize of ₦400,000 for their outstanding performance. The Lions of Akatom secured the second-place position, earning ₦300,000, showcasing remarkable skill and determination throughout the competition. Okwabang United finished third, receiving ₦200,000 for their commendable efforts.

The event attracted notable attendees, including Mr. Abang, FA Vice Chairman, who lauded the Boki Youth Council for organizing such a progressive tournament. Other dignitaries, including Sir Combok and FA Secretary Mr. Etalobi, also voiced their support and enthusiasm for the initiative, recognizing its importance in promoting sports and unity among the youth in Cross River State.
