NATIONAL YOUTH GAMES 2024: OVER 500 TEAM DELTA ATHLETES GO INTO CLOSED CAMPING.

Jude Agbeyeke.
Over 500 Team Delta athletes have gone into closed camping ahead of the 8th edition of the National Youth Games holding at the iconic Steven Keshi International Stadium Asaba from September 9 to 19.
The Director General of the Delta State Sports Commission, Mr Festus Ohwojero, revealed this on Friday following the conclusion of the over one month open camping and final trials organized by the Sports Commission.
According to Mr Ohwojero, over 200 officials also entered into the closed camp with the athletes with the aim of enhancing their preparations for the games.
The Director General said the athletes have been told to take their preparations seriously as they could be replaced with other athletes who also participated in the open camping, advising that they must see themselves as the state's ambassadors and must work hard to ensure Team Delta retains its top spot at the Youth Games.
The soft spoken sports administrator averred that so much has been invested by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori towards their welfare and preparations and the only way to thank the Governor was to successfully defend their title having won the last 7 editions of the games since inception.
Mr Ohwojero also enjoined the coaches and officials to take their jobs seriously as they have the backing of Governor Oborevwori to produce a formidable team that would astound the nation at the Youth Games.
He also called on parents whose wards were selected for the closed camping not to entertain any worries about their safety as everything has been put in place to ensure their security, wellbeing and development.
He also enjoined the parents to pray for the success of their wards as Delta is a praying state which believes in the efficacy of prayers in every venture.
