A Historic Occasion

The 2024 matchup marks the Jets' sixth game played outside the United States and their third in London, following successful appearances in 2015 and 2021. The Vikings, meanwhile, will be making their first trip to London since 2017, when they defeated the Cleveland Browns at Twickenham Stadium. Both teams will be looking to not only secure a win but also to captivate a global audience with their unique styles of play.

Key Matchups to Watch

One of the most intriguing storylines will be the battle between Jets' cornerback Sauce Gardner and Vikings' star wide receiver Justin Jefferson. Gardner, a two-time All-Pro selection, has quickly established himself as one of the premier defensive backs in the league. His ability to shut down opposing receivers will be put to the test against Jefferson, who has become one of the most explosive and reliable targets in the NFL.

On the offensive side for the Jets, wide receiver Garrett Wilson will be looking to continue his impressive form. Wilson, who has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first two seasons, will be a key weapon for the Jets as they aim to challenge the Vikings' secondary. His performance could be crucial in determining the outcome of the game.

NFL London 2024 - The Significance of the International Stage

For the NFL, the London games are more than just regular-season matchups; they are a showcase of the league's international appeal. Since the first regular-season game was played in London in 2007, the NFL has made a concerted effort to grow its fanbase outside of North America. The 2024 season will feature three games in London, with two at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and one at Wembley Stadium. Additionally, the league will host games in Germany and, for the first time, in Brazil.

NFL London 2024 - Ex-Jets QB Sam Darnold wowing with arm at Vikings training camp

Former Jets quarterback Sam Darnold was spotted throwing impressive passes to Vikings receivers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison this week as NFL training camp opened. While Darnold has been far from perfect in his first few days of camp, his fleeting performance has caught the attention of many people.

The first occurred on Wednesday during a play that was posted on Viking social media when Darnold fired a deep pass into the waiting arms of Jefferson. He then threw a 40+ laser beam at Addison during Thursday's practice, according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic.

While the deep passes were impressive, Darnold still struggled at times during the first two days of practice on the field, with Camryn Bynum nearly throwing an interception on Day 1 and picking off Shaq Griffin on Day 2, as well as several dropped passes. The Minnesota Vikings reported on SI.

At this point, I'm just going through the game situation and looking at everything I see on defense and just mentally checking all the boxes, Darnold told reporters Thursday. [Addison's] ability to change speeds, pick an angle and stick to that angle really helps as a quarterback.

Darnold added that he's felt really comfortable throwing to Addison since camp opened. The former Jets and 49ers signal caller expected to the Vikings' No. 1 QB this season, even after they drafted Michigan punter J.J. McCarthy selected 10th overall in April's draft.

Darnold, who is entering his seventh season in the NFL, selected third overall by the Jets in the 2018 draft and spent three seasons in New York, although things never panned out the way either side had hoped.

Aside from the AFC North, the NFC North had as much parity as any other division last season, with all four teams posting at least seven wins.  While the Vikings took a step back after losing Kirk Cousins, the rest of the NFC North teams poised to improve in 2024.

The Bears' trade of the No. 1 overall pick last year to the Panthers set them up well for the future. The team included quarterback Caleb Williams, OL Darnell Wright, receiver DJ Moore, punter Tori Taylor and several future players.

Chicago started last season 0-4 but spent the next 13 games above .500, finishing 7-10. Matt Eberflus has already changed the direction of the Bears organization in just two years and now has a super-talented rookie tandem of Williams and WR Rome Odunze. Don't be surprised if the Bears finish above .500, especially they have one of the easiest projected schedules in the NFL.

Lions: 10.5 wins (-135/+110)

The Lions finished 12-5 last season, making it to the NFC Championship, before taking a 24-7 halftime lead over the 49ers.  Detroit relied heavily on outscoring its opponents, ranking second in total offense per PFF but 19th in total defense.

The Lions re-signed most of their top talent, including QB Jared Goff, WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and O.L. Penei Sewell.  The Lions also brought in Marcus Davenport, Kevin Zeitler, Carlton Davis and DJ Reeder in free agency and hired CB Terrion Arnold to help fill the void left by the departure of C.J. Gardner-Johnson.  It's Super Bowl or bust for the Lions.

Packers: 9.5 wins (-140/+115)

After sitting behind Aaron Rodgers for his first two seasons, Jordan Love finally got his chance to start for the Packers and he didn't disappoint, throwing for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns.

The Packers broke out at the perfect time last year, winning three straights to make the playoffs and then picking up an upset win over second-place Dallas before falling to San Francisco.

The Packers replaced Aaron Jones with Josh Jacobs and Darnell Savage with Xavier McKinney. Additionally, the momentum they found at the end of the 2023 season should give them confidence that they can be one of the best in the conference and the entire league.

Vikings at NFL London: 7.5 wins (+150/-190)

Growing pains are to expected when you allow your starting quarterback to become a free agent. Cousins was ranked ninth among PFF-rated quarterbacks but was fifth in that ranking before going down with an injury in Week 8. Cousins will replaced by a combination of journeyman Sam Darnold and rookie J.J. McCarthy, which would mean an immediate downgrade.

Additionally, while Khyri Jackson and Dallas Turner were amazing picks in this year's draft, relying on two rookies to solve a major defensive problem isn't ideal.  The Vikings needed to do more to deal with their secondary, which ranked last in opponents' completion percentage last year.

Minnesota allowed opposing defenders to complete more than 70 percent of their attempts, nearly 2 percent more than the next closest team.  Every team in the NFC North has improved significantly, with the exception of the Vikings, who have prioritized long-term growth over trying to be competitive right now.

They can expect to take a significant step back in 2024, especially with the fifth-toughest projected schedule according to Sharp Football.  Expecting a team to win more games than last season (7-10) despite being objectively worse while being in a division where every other team has improved doesn't make much sense.
