The country is blessed with diverse cultures, tribes and plural of multiple identities Nigeria as a country has over 50 languages and over 250 dialect, and ethic groups, the culture of Nigeria is influenced by its multiple ethnicity.
Despite her richness in culture and mineral resources. The country is faced with deadly problem pose are threat to the citizens of the country . Insecurity is one of the serious problem faced by the Country. Nigeria, as a country is faced with plethora issues of insecurity such as banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, militancy, insurgency, armed robbery domestic crime, Extra judicial killings, domestic crime, and attack by unknown gone.
Insecurity means the quality or state of being insecure, such as feeling of anxiety, fear of self doubt. Insecurities also a feeling of uncertainty when there is uncertainty in the country and the feeling of anxiety and fear, insecurity has taken hold of the country.
Regarding the issue of insecurity in the country, Samuel Agbelusi give his perspective regarding the issue for him, the issue of security in Nigeria, has become something of grieve concern to the citizens, most of whom continue to wonder how the country arrived as such a devastating situation, where no one is safe. The problem is escalating, and now totally out of control insecurity in Nigeria is a phenomenon that threatenswell-being of its citizens.
The issue of insecurity has plagued the country since the countries independence in 1960 and they are so many situation of crisis the 1966 coup is the bedrock of the issue of insecurity in the country, especially between the Igbo group and the Hausa/fulani tribe. This actually is a strong foundation of the driving force of insecurity today in Nigeria the impact of insecurity is reflected in the aspect of economy, ranging from the economic indicators and the investment inflows And how the economy performs.
In an Interview with Reverend father Damian Amana, the Head of public relation at Prince Abubakar Audu’s University,Anyigba kogi state, he gave his perception on the issue. He said Nigeria generally is insecure because of majority of the masses leaves in continuous phobia, especially the fear of survival. People can no longer put foods on the table and there is a deep struggle of survival to eat, these increased crime rate in the country. For father Damian, the issue of insecurity has affected him personally in three dimensions.. the first aspect according to him, His spiritual position affects him, most importantly, because the congregation he preaches to no matter whatsoever, he says about God people are still afraid. The trust in God and faith is punctured. Preaching to people with uncertainty in their mind and preaching faith when hope is not coming anywhere makes it even more difficult preaching to a good number of people Who are starving without help affect him greatly.
As a teacher also, Damian said it affects him too, teaching a class whose hearts are not stable and confident affects the academic performance. He said close to about 6 to 7000 students haven’t paid for the tuition fee and exams are just around the corner. The mind of these students certainly would not be at rest because of their situation. So in that aspect, the school also needs money to run her activities, so those students cannot necessarily be asked to stay on charity for father Damian as long as the issue of insecurity touches people around him. It’s also touches him.
As a family man, he explained how many people in his family look up to him for survival, and his income is minimal. He may not be able to meet up with the demands of everyone in his family.
Father Damian explained the possible causes in Nigeria, which he said it didn’t just begin today. The current insecurity we are facing in Nigeria did not start today according to him
it’s began immediately after the colonial exist, and the takeover of indigenous choices when our people began to spend our resource is carelessly, previous leaders failed to make the necessary and important investment. The country became trouble very quickly with the Biafra war at the beginning. father the Damian also said that the tribalism beats corruption and one tribe doesn’t trust another tribe, one tribe does not promote another tribe, and there is a fight for survival. every ethnic group is fighting for their own rights, and they are fighting for separation.
The act has created a culture for nepotism and of corruption. Our patrimony is no longer trustworthy and as that continue unfortunately we are where we are today. For father Damian, no system is working, no institution is sound. I know judiciary will not collect money to deprive people of their right because of that everybody now feels no one trustworthy. For the Damian said, the beginning of these art is also tied down to some expertise And foreign countries influence, who also will, or wants to carry out some agenda to make sure that power remains in their right hand, so that those who will come into power are those who will Favour them And began to quit parties of favoritism, and that has led us where we are today. where we are basically where nobody does things on objective grounds anymore, everybody adjust converging from what we have as national cake.
Father Damian also explained some of the necessary investments that our previous leaders to do. He made use of the fact that before the discovery of crude oil, Nigeria had very robust farming agenda, ranging from groundnut pyramid in Kano and all of that, after the discovery of the crude oil, the oil was not put into infrastructural development. There was no investment of creating industries, creating research Institute creating social amenities. There was no second level investment of using money, that other countries who came to buy oil from us as a nation, no level of investment where the money goes into production And then we eat the product of the production. We were busy eating, sharing and living large on all the proceeds that came from capital of the crude oil.
Father Damian also explained that the Nigerian politicians are the highest paid in the world. There was no plans for investment.Damian explained that if they had been planned to build more industries, more factories, more research, institutes and more educational amenities and eating from the proceeds of the product investments, Nigeria would have been one of the greatest country in the world today.
The painful idea as a country of not knowing what to do with all the crude oil money other than sharing cars and living large there wasn’t any painful gain in the country. Nigeria became an epitome of a country who spins money carelessly no money for investments. Father Damian also explained that so long as something happens to our crude oil as a country then we are already on the track of poverty and it surely leads to insecurity. Father Damian’s personal experience is the fact that you would be almost pushed to get money the wrong way just to maintain survival. He said the issue has decrease the money in the pocket because those who call him for money for help dries him uncertain, because the demand on him with low income is alarming. The insecurity saga according to father Damian has affected him on various dimensions, ranging from how he used to feed before he leaves his social and economic life. All of his life has been affected by insecurity. Productivity is low, and since there is no reverse provision for anybody.
He gave some recommendations that he hopes will solve the issue of his securities in the country. he said they should be a censorship committee of integrity to enforce law and order. He said everyone should be doing the right things and to make sure that happens, the committee of integrity should be put in place, regardless of who anyone will be to the members of the committee of integrity, Justice should prevail, with that the issue of insecurity in the country will reduce is a very high penalty that people are made to pay for the crimes committed the crime. Then the country is on the verge of fighting insecurity one very important Damian is that Nigerians in diaspora abide to every other foreign rules and regulation, because they understand the failure to do so in-cure the wrath that nation, so if they can adhere to those rules there, they should also add her to that of your country with the help of the community of integrity. With the insecurity in the country will be mitigated.
Regarding the issue , research was conducted. Base on the research,a research at the Institute for security studies, Malik Samuel, advice the Tinubu administration to address the causes of insecurity. For him, the president should address root causes of insecurity. He should look at insecurity not just as a treat to national security, but also as it threat to the people. You should also focus on the safety and the welfare of the people instead of focusing on military force, Addressing the issue driving the violence. You should also address the issue of governance and corruption.
However, there is a need for the government to cook into the issue of insecurities in the country. The root causes of insecurity should be addressed corruption in every sector of the administration should be dealt with. If the government really wants to handle the issue and guarantee safety to the people, they can do that by weakening terrorist, and the other way, that has been mentioned above.
