GHANA today can be likened to the Titanic Cruise Ship which hit an iceberg in the middle of deep sea and left the passengers and the crews in despair with each struggling to hold on any straw that came their way to survive. Hence, it is not surprising to see a lot of activism all around 6 months to election, especially among the trade unions and pressure groups, running helter skelter, declaring strikes or demonstrations to make various demands in order to see how much of the national cake they can get for themselves. Chiefs, Pastors and opinion leaders included. And that is the problem of the Nation Ghana - SELF. Unfortunately we apply this solution over and over again all these years but conditions are just getting worse off.
TODAY people join political parties, not for its ideology and how those ideas can help build a free and just state for its people but for what they can amass for themselves. Again, State institutions and Agencies are no longer there to serve the people but to exploit and perpetuate corruption. Schools and academic institutions are no more turning out a productive and highly skilled labourforce but just to issue certificates and to see how much money they can rake-in. Same goes to the three Arms of Government who have become Demi-gods and subjected the citizens to perpetual servitude on their own Homeland through impunity and their endless quest for opulent.
IN all these chaos and crisis, while workers and other communities stakeholders doing as much as possibles to get a piece of the pie and the politicians also trying hard to satisfy these needs in order to clinch to the power or get hold of it, let us ask ourselves if all these will make this country better or worse off in coming years?. Our currency is gradually becoming worthless. Asking for more and the government printing more, make our economic conditions worse. Recently a sister told me she went to a filling station a day and realized the amount she used to fill her car, could not give her even a half-tank. It was then it dawned on her how much her living standard had come down.
SADLY, it is now clear to every Ghanaian that the fluke prosperity and the phantom hope and promises of freedom and justice of constitutional rules and the privilege of electing our leaders which we held so dearly in 1992, have brought us nothing 30 years on but despair , hopelessness, laziness, poor maintenance culture, high unemployment, corruption, depletion of our forests, destruction of our water bodies, poverty and dependency mindedness, in addition to a huge national debt. , while all the good men of this nation went to sleep or sold their conscience to party A or B.
HOWEVER, I thank the universe for bringing Ghana to this crossroad of chaos and crisis, where desperation is writing on the face of the majority to wake us up to turn away from greed and self-seeking. This just means one thing, It is time for True Patriots to rise and rebuild this country, on a strong foundation of truth, integrity, accountability and love for God & Country, through their blood and toil, to bring the prosperity so deserved to its people and to help the people eat the good of the Land.
God bless our homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong.
