CROSS RIVER STATE SPORTS DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC MEETING.

The State Commissioner for Sports Development and her team from the Ministry of Sports have organized a pivotal Strategic Partnership Meeting for sports development, in Cross River State, held at the Ministry for Finance in Calabar.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Mike Odere underscored the historical significance of sports in Cross River State and emphasized the need for a transformation in service delivery across all MDAs to rejuvenate the state's sports sector. He urged attendees to take sports seriously and prioritize crucial issues for the development of sports in the state.
The Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Agnes Atsu, provided a comprehensive overview of the activities undertaken since her assumption in office, highlighting her findings within the sports Ministry.
She stressed the importance of the meeting in fostering synergy and collaboration with relevant ministries to rekindle the state's sports sector and restore it to its former glory.
The Sports Development Consultant, Dr. MacFarlane Ejah, identified challenges within the sports ministry and outlined key projects aimed at re-branding, collaboration, income generation, and the organization of secondary school competitions and LGAs games, among other initiatives, towards redeveloping sports in the state and beyond.
He also hinted on the efforts being made towards development of a State specific Sports policy that will provide the enabling environment for private sector investment.
The SA General Duties, Barr. Ekpenyong Akiba, emphasized the need to prioritize quick wins emerging from the meeting, that require immediate attention, toward revitalizing the state's sports sector.
Meanwhile the Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. Ijom Ukam, and the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mr. Patrick Egbede, emphasized the importance of a policy framework, income generation, youth involvement, and the creation of employment and opportunities for the people of Cross River State.
Participants from various ministries and departments
collectively shared insights recognizing the significance of translating the governor's vision and mandate into tangible reality, they pledge their committment to working together to achieve the common goal of restoring Cross River State's sports sector to its former glory.
To ensure the success of the strategic partnership meeting, a committee was established to oversee the achievement of its objectives, to drive the collaborative effort. The committee is to be inaugurated by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Agnes Atsu on Monday 16th October 2023
