Review: I want to love this book, but I can't. Like some medieval pedagogue, Dr. Wade opts for condensed structural formulas over line-angle ones for most of the book (luckily condensed just doesn't work for cyclic molecules, so line-angle is used for these). OChem is already hard enough. Why teach a convenient way for seeing organic molecules (line-angle) and then not use it? It is more difficult to visualize condensed structural formulas as 3-D molecules, and OChem has everything to do with being able to "see" the 3-D molecule on the page and in your head. If you're a visual learner on top of this, you will encounter significant difficulty. I really can't stress this enough. I used Klein's Organic Chemistry as a Second Language with this, and it made all the difference.With that out of the way, there are some things I really like about the book. I think the explanations are good. The practice problems are helpful, and the answers to them in the solutions manual have detailed explanations too. The solutions manual is not included, so I would just rent it.You know how a lot of textbooks have sort of absurd graphic clutter on every page? Not so here. The formatting is free of this (except for the sea of C's and H's), and it is amazing.

Review: This book is filled with huge chapters which overwhelm you with way too much unnecessary information. It's very difficult to be learning organic chemistry for the first time and not being able to distinguish which information is essential and which is extraneous because the textbook problems are so trivia-specific. After a while, I gave up on this text and used Klein's Organic Chemistry (both his textbook and his Organic Chemistry as a Second Language manual), which saved my grade in the class.

Review: Hello, I’m a biochemistry major and had to take organic chemistry 1 and 2, at first I got the hardback textbook, and I barely opened it because when I needed to look at it, it was at my dorm because that thing was heavy and not worth the back pain of carrying it around. So, I caved and got the loose leaf, it was a great decision! I took out the chapters I needed and took them to class with me, and I could highlight and make notes near the text the professor emphasized on. If you are taking organic chemistry and are using this book, buy the loose leaf. You won’t regret it!

Review: This book works well for learning organic chemistry, and this version isn't very different from the previous version, it just has some slightly different homework problems (although most are the same, just numbered differently) and there are some charts in the chapter summaries that are very useful.Issues:The Kindle version has a formatting issue with the index thing listing the chapters, they're named strangely ('B_71371_ch01_ptg01_hr.4c' for chapter one) and the chapters are not divided into their sections in the kindle side tab (app for pc). However, all the chapters and their sections can be easily reached from the book's own table of contents just by clicking on them.Also, for some strange reason, chapter 25 is at the end of the book, after all the appendices, indexes, etc., and after chapter 26.I've owned the Kindle version for almost a year now, and none of those issues were ever fixed.I would recommend buying the previous version if you could get it cheaper, unless you absolutely need a kindle version for whatever reason.

Review: The cover of the book I ordered looked like the picture and appeared to be the right edition (9th), and all of the text was correct. However, all of the practice problems were different from the real 9th edition. The book was in good condition and helpful for reading information, but it was not usable for any of the homework problems, which was what I actually needed it for.

This is false advertising, and now I'm without a book that I truly need with only days before class starts. If I Could give 0 stars, I would.

Review: This book is seriously terrible. Why does this book discuss radicals in Ch 4? How do you learn radicals before you learn about alkene reactions? It doesn't make sense. I was forced to use this book when I took Organic Chemistry at a community college. Please do yourself a favor and get the Organic Chemistry book by Smith, 5th EDITION!!!!! SHE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING SERIOUSLY
