Review: Much has been said in relation to “the cultural mandate” of Genesis 1:26-28, that due to Adam’s transgression and Fall, caused Adam’s race to be disqualified to fulfill it. The human race lost its humanness as a result, was cast out of the Garden, and a truly human being (as the Nicene Creed declares regarding Christ) would have to come to redeem God’s good Creation and restore the outworking of God’s intent. The Last Adam, The God-Man, the Holy Seed of Abraham, through His death, burial, resurrection, and ascension, reiterates that mandate in Matthew 28:18-20, affirming His authority over the entire universe, and commissioning His Church to fill the earth with His glory, attesting to princes and powers in the heavenly realms, the manifold wisdom of God. Jesus is ahead of us, calling us from the future to the future. The Father is going to sum up all things in Christ. That cannot happen by the Church blending into the culture or accommodating the culture. Joseph Mattera takes us methodically on a journey of how the Church has accommodated the culture of this world and blended in, rather than incarnating Christ in the culture, and co-opting the power of the Holy Spirit, by opting for the spirit of the age (zeitgeist) and losing its saltiness and light. Joseph takes us from modernity and post-modernity, by way cultural anthropology and commentary, and Biblical Theology, exposing gnostic dualism, and its impact on the thinking of far too many believers in terms of a self-centered approach to the Gospel that has marginalized the very tools by which a global culture can experience the transforming grace of Christ. The Father intends that the earth be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord in every nation and in every sphere of influence in society. There is much to glean in “The Divided Gospel”. Take the time to savor Joe’s words. While you may find he stretches you, stay engaged with him as a dialogue partner. It will enlarge you!

Review: I bought this book directly from Dr. Mattera after hearing him speak at a conference and cannot say enough about how much power is packed into this tiny book! He hits the nail on the head as to why the Church is becoming more impacted by the world and not the world by the Truth. Living out "thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven" is not the same as living for Jesus to fill the hole in your heart. Every follower of Christ should read this... immediately!

Review: With clarity, biblical logic, and pastoral care, Dr. Joe Mattera exposes the differences between the contemporary, individualistic gospel, and the biblical gospel. And while he does not endorse a dominionist theology in which the church takes over the world, he does call us to be kingdom-minded believers as we seek to fulfill the Great Commission and advance the Kingdom of God. A very helpful and timely read.
