Title: A must-read for any aspiring card counter

Review: This book teaches you everything you need to know to become a winning card counter.

Its detailed step-by-step instructions on how to go from novice to expert blackjack player are timeless and priceless (especially all the progressive practice techniques).

The most crucial aspects of dealing with running count, true count, % advantage and bet size are deeply and thoroughly explained. Though older, the specific system it recommends (Hi Opt 1) is arguably still as good as other level 1 systems out there, but you could substitute any other one for it and the lessons would still be just as valuable.

The math and methods used are solid and mathematically certain. In 1990, I personally followed this guide almost to the letter, and ran $200 into $5,000 over a dozen weekend trips to Nevada (granted single decks games were much more prominent at the time). I still consistently win 30 years later.

At the time it was published, this was without a doubt properly titled as The World's Greatest Blackjack Book. It would be great to see an updated edition, since it’s filled with many now-obsolete details(such as specific rules in various cities and countries). Until then, I recommend you just skip those parts and you've still got a 5-star book.

Title: Don't buy this book!

Review: Notice how this book is all about helping you with numbers and to play blackjack properly but as soon as you get to the good part where the numbers are broken down it is just terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When you get to page 160 and you look at the numbers it is just mind boggling what kind of scheme this book is and how it is just here to confuse you, it's very simple, take out a calculator, there are 13 different cards in the game of blackjack Ace through king 7.7×13=100.1 which means that every single card has a 7.7% chance of being the next card, taking that into account, punch in to your calculator 7.7×6=46.2 which are the 6 cards Ace through 6 that can come out when you hit on 15 and you stil will not bust, now look at the bottom of the page it says that you have a 58% chance of busting when you hit on 15 when in reality, this big so called "mathematician" is a full 4% off and thats a lot if you're really a blackjack player, so if you understand 4th grade math which I btw never really took (lol) then you would take this book and add it to your comedy section.

Review: The author takes too much time describing intricacies of the BJ in first chapters of the book. It may seem annoying. But then he turns to the math. Makes sense. Good insight on dealers' cheating and their psychology and ways of running BJ at different casinos (now somewhat outdated). Now I understand why Oakland Raiders are LV team :)

Review: As an intermediate Blackjack player, I was looking for that book that would help me become an advanced player. I was not disappointed. Lance Humble's "The World's Greatest Blackjack Book" covers everything you need to know about the game of Blackjack: How to play, Basic Strategy, the Hi-Opt I counting system, among general advice surrounding the game of 21. Just when you thought you knew it all, Mr. Humble shows that you really didn't know as much as you thought you did.

If you're willing to read an entire book on Blackjack, you're probably interested in counting cards. The actual game strategy behind the Hi-Opt I counting system that Mr. Humble proposes actually composes a very small portion of the book. It's simply a matter of grasping the system at first, memorizing the tables, and then putting it into practice. The majority of pages within this book actually offer tips unrelated to actual game strategy such as how to avoid detection by the pit bosses, personal stories, and the differences among casinos. The information on casinos was the only portion of the book I felt was outdated, seeing as how many of the casinos Mr. Humble talks about no longer exist, or have changed their rules since this publication.

If you're strictly looking for information on game strategy, then you could probably find those on online tables. However, reading the entire book can give you a greater understanding of all aspects of the game of Blackjack. This book can give beginners the strong foundation they need to become better players, while advanced players will surely find information within this book that will further improve their game.

Review: This book is outdated. There were some interesting stories about being in the casino and playing blackjack, but when it got into explaining basic strategy and the Hi-Opt I counting system, it was very straightforward and very boring. The charts in the book were all black and white. The whole book was black and white. The variations mentioned only go to 4 decks.

Title: Great book! Sadly, outdated

Review: This is a great book! It teaches you a lot of the basics of blackjack and gives you information about a lot of casinos in different parts of the world. Sadly, all of the information is outdated. Also, it feels like a grandfather teaching. Story after story after story that the reader might not care about.
On the plus side, the first few chapters about the basics of blackjack is golden, and so is the author's basic strategy. And it does teaches you the high opt I method of counting cards which is not the best one to learn since there's been new methods that's been created since the release of this book.

Review: An excellent book for anyone who wants to play for either entertainment or seriously. No, you will not get rich but you will not lose a lot either, and there is even a possibility that you could come home ahead.

I gave it four stars because it is a little dated. You can tell it was written a couple decades ago. The math is still the same, but the stories no longer ring true.

Review: This book offers a lot of detail and insight into the game of 21. I bought it before a trip to Vegas thinking that I could master the game before getting there. Although general strategy is pretty easy to learn, mastering all the techniques in this book will take a lot of time and practice. I recommend getting this book (way in advance) before going to play 21 in Vegas.
