Review: This is a version that includes a lot of material edited out of the original. I don't think this adds a single thing to the story, which was perfect as previously told in the original edition. The added material is largely redundant and superfluous. The added material also adds a lot of needless religious links that subtract from the universality of the knowledge conveyed in the original edition. This book was one of the best stories of the decade. This new edition hacks it up and tries to beat the religion and anti-religion drum. Save yourself a lot of disappointment and aggravation - just read the original. This one needs the good editing it got when it was first published.

Review: Pros: With regard to secular pursuits - ideas such as thinking outside the box, following one's dreams, and diligent hard work are great attributes for success. These could be applied to careers, hobbies, or other worldly activities.Cons: While this book might appeal to New Age religions, this allegory does not fit the Christian criteria for obtaining Heaven. The method of pursuing one's own dreams, no matter what they are; choosing to disregard rules, and becoming perfect through our own works, are completely opposite those of Christianity. The bible states that in losing our own lives (in following God's will) we will gain our lives; that following God's laws, not our own, leads to happiness; and Heaven is unobtainable on our own because try as we might, we all fall short of perfection.

Review: I loved parts 1-3 of the original Jonathan Livingston Seagull book. Part 4 of this "Complete Version" takes away the goodness of JL Seagull. Bach uses Jonathan Livingston Seagull to go off into a religious criticism which he does not have the theological knowledge and understanding to do. Part 4 detracts from the beauty and wonder of Jonathan Livingston Seagull. I recommend people avoid the complete version and stick to the original.

Review: Jonathan Livingston Seagull made a huge impression on me as an adolescent in the late 70s. My attention focused on memoir now, I recalled Jonathan and his struggle for enlightenment and freedom. I couldn't find my childhood favorite in my stash so I ordered the newest edition. To my delight I discovered a Part Four and Last Words by the author added to the story!I read Jonathan to my 13-year-old boys and they absorbed it with serious attention. "Wow, that's deep" and lots of commentary along the way let me know it is just as powerful for my generation of kids as it was for me.Reading as an older adult brought a whole new level of appreciation for Jonathan's struggles and achievements. It also led me to purchasing more stories by Richard Bach. An author of amazing talent with his own story of flight I will never tire of reading.

Review: I had heard so many great things about this book, but every time I picked it up I thought, "Do I really want to spend my time reading about a seagull?" But then I read Richard Bach's (lesser known) book "Illusions" and loved it. So I bought this book.No, it's not as good as "Illusions." But, when I was in high school, I used to look out the window and watch the birds sail on the wind, and dream of that freedom. And since then, watching birds sly has fascinated me. And that's what I loved about this book, how Mr. Bach perfectly describes seagulls, how they move, what they look like when they fly, and also that yearning for freedom, and for being accepted just as you are.The fourth chapter, which I understand was recently added, made the book more worthwhile to me. Without it, I think I would have given it 3 stars. Maybe that says more about me than about the author.I recommend anyone to read "Illusions" instead.

Review: With a simple story line, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, The New Complete Edition, is most enjoyable and inspiring. Jonathan doesn't travel in a pack. He isn't afraid to travel left of center. He isn't afraid to try something new. He has dreams and isn't afraid to reach for those dreams. He doesn't accept that he shouldn't reach for his dreams just because no other seagull does so. For anyone who likes to "travel to the beat of a different drummer" Jonathan Livingston Seagull may become one of your most cherished books.
