Review: After reading the first three chapters, I am probably going to skip the rest of the book and look for other sources, not just for the certification, but also as a literature resource tool. It is not that the content of the book is wrong, but there are so many errors, that it is hard to establish foundational basis about Linux.For anybody learning about Command Syntax, there are so many errors that you simple have no way to trust any new content discussed. Lots of inconsistencies in the way the text is presented will also make it hard for the reader to grasp important concepts. It seems that this book was not proofread, and the editorial work is totally absent. Questions and answers at the end of chapter reviews are totally misleading, some of the answers confuse you more than you were before reading the content. It appears that this book was taken from a draft document to the press.This book needs a huge editorial work.

Review: I am 75 pages in, but felt that the errors so far warranted a review.Page 54, 3rd bullet point under "Search and Replace Text" should is missing a '/' after '<replacement_string>' and before 'g'. 4th Bullet point is incorrect, the command listed will only search and replace the first instance of the string on each line. For it to replace all instances on all lines (as it describes that it does), it would need 'g' after '<replacement_string>/'.Page 69's meta character section implies 'echo SHELL' as the output of 'echo /$SHELL'. This is incorrect, the output would simply be '$SHELL'.An obvious typo on page Page 71: 'locale -k LC_TELPEHONE'. A basic spellchecker would have found this.Despite these 3 mistakes, the first 75 pages have been informative and straight to the point. I would highly recommend this book, and I'm excited to continue studying from it.Perhaps an expert Linux professional should consider reviewing this book before the next edition is published.

Review: Ted Jordan and Sandor Strohmayer are likely excellent IT professionals, but they're terrible teachers. In this book, the large list of topics covered in the exam are re-ordered into 20 chapters. Under usual circumstances, this would be fine (since the re-ordering is supposed to facilitate the learning experience). Unfortunately, this book fails to do that. Each chapter introduces you commands that you have not learned yet in order to explain a topic you're unfamiliar with, before later defining what that former command does. The order of progression is so counter-intuitive and demoralizing that it baffles me. You will have trouble understanding and learning the information being sprawled out infant of you unless you're already familiar with the concepts.To be fair, the book's content itself is not bad. I will be using this as a reference guide in my self-studies, as I make flashcards and notes off of the objectives defined by the Comp-TIA website. However, I would like you to beware that this book (by itself) is a terrible study tool for the Linux+ exam. I bought a "All-In-One" study guide before for the CompTIA Security+ exam in the past, and passed it on my first try. It's not my lack of discipline. The study materials are simply laid out in a horrendous manner. You've been warned; hope this helps.

Review: The exam does have ~5 technical questions that are NOT multiple choice. This book will help you get 75% grade but you will need to apply that textbook knowledge to answer the harder questions. Memorizing definitions will only get you so far on this cert. I do wish this book had technical questions for practice, but does not.

Review: This book is so poorly structured that I spent more time trying to interpret what they were trying to express than actually learning the material. Figures and tables are frequently on either the previous or following pages, several typos, etc, etc. BTW, the Linux+ exam I took was 65 questions, not the 90 questions as claimed in this book. The index is woefully incomplete and the text doesn't even cover topics such as the curl command which you WILL need to know for the exam!

Review: Great layout, progression of skills, and learning aid. Breaking up the larger chapters with smaller sections divided by a few questions and a quick exercise is great for squeezing in a few pages instead of an entire chapter at once, great for the ADHD reader, lol. I'm a third of the way through the book and I love it, well written, simple, and to the point without the typical fluff of most mass produced money driven manuals.

Review: The book is very well written. Very easy to read. I am actually enjoying learning Linux. This book has all of the tools and guidance that you would expect to find in a premium CompTIA certification guide. McGraw Hill should be very proud to have had the wisdom to publish this Author. He even has videos and a .ova image that can be installed in a Virtual Machine, such as Oracle's VirtualBox and VMware's Player or Workstation. You can't go wrong buying this book. I have purchased the book and PDF version. I'm confident that I will pass the exam the first try.CompTIA ITF+ CertifiedCompTIA A+ Certified

Review: The book does do a good job covering the exam objectives however it suffers from some strange formatting issues that make it hard to follow occasionally (this is the physical copy I’m referring to.) The book is also riddled with errors as if it was never proofread before going to press. Finally, the practice questions are pretty useless in that they are nowhere near what you might see on the exam and they too often have mistakes in their answers. Overall a very subpar book as far as tech books go.
