Title: Kinda patronizing

Review: I bought this book because I assumed that as a "girl's guide" it wouldn't be too bogged down with technical jargon and would be a nice, basic book about car maintenance. I was right, in a way. Unfortunately I think it's a little too dumbed-down, so it seems like it's condescending. At one point an oil change is likened to a manicure, and at another it literally describes gasoline as food for your car. Maybe I'm in the wrong for wanting a basic book and getting one a little TOO basic, but it does have helpful sections otherwise. It's been helpful when I've tried to diagnose problems with my car, or even learning little trivia bits about the indicator lights on your dash, etc. I just wish it wasn't as "tee-hee, girls can get a little dirty with their car too!" I like this book's information, but the delivery is just too stereotypical "ditzy broad works on car."

Title: Great for the Novice Auto Mechanic of Either Gender

Review: Great book for the inexperienced auto mechanic (not just for girls). I bought it for my wife and daughter as a reference. But before I passed it off, I read it through myself. The author was an engineer but wanted to learn about whats under the hood, took mechanic courses, opened a shop cateri g primarily to women, and also started conducting worshops to educate women to either do routine car maintenance or at least select a good mechanic and talk intellingently with him. Also a good read as well.

Review: Great book. Informative, entertaining, and easy to read. I love the diagrams so you can see what she's talking about. I learned more about cars in the first 5 minutes than what I've learned about cars from 20 + years of driving. I'm now trying to impart this knowledge to my 16 year old son. I don't think men know this stuff, either.

Review: It helps me to make better decisions about my car, and keeps me informed when I'm not sure what things are, concerning my car. Dispels the myths, and is written in basic language with some visuals to help guide. I've recommended it to my brother who spends way too much on the huge car manuals and still doesn't get the information he needs. Would make a great gift!

Review: This is a great book for ANY woman, experienced with cars or mechanical work or not. Well written in simple English, no confusing or intimidating language. If you ever wanted to understand you car and no man in your life could help, this is the book to buy. It's more than "how to fill your radiator and windshield fluid." It's serious stuff about things women need to know. I have worked on my car for 20+ years and still learned a lot. It now lives in my glove box. If you're a woman, or a man even, and you want something light, but helpful, this is the book to buy. Every parent should buy one for their teen-aged daughter.

Review: I am thoroughly enjoying this book. It starts out simple and then gets a little bit more detailed as you go along. I am starting to understand a lot more than I ever thought I would with cars and can have a general conversation about parts. I highly recommend this to anyone, man or woman, that wants to learn more and would be great to keep in your car. I think this would be a phenomenal gift especially for teenagers learning to drive or even for kids going to college. Everyone should have a base knowledge about cars and this is such a great book to get you to that point. Again, those with XY chromosomes can and should read this book as well if they do not know a lot about cars.

Review: This book is excellent, specially for women, who want to have a basic understanding of auto mechanics. The writing is sort of in conversational form and the explanation is very clear. It covers the what, the why, the maintenance schedules, the common issues ,the repairs involved, and the approximate cost. A great reference book before taking your car to the shop or dealership for repair. First book of this kind that I truly like!

Review: This book is really a beginners guide to learning your automobile. It's a no judgment lesson in the basic mechanics/electronics of how cars work and does a great job of explaining why what you THINK you know about your vehicle may or may not be correct. Recommended for anyone who owns a vehicle and a great read for teenagers who are just starting to drive all the way to older folks who've had cars for years but have just depended on others for their car maintenance. This book can not only save you money but will most certainly give you piece of mind.
