Vietnam was Boring
If I had to describe my thirteen months in Vietnam with one word, that one word would be, βBoringβ. I know this idea of having a boring time in Vietnam does not fit with your perception of Vietnam. All you hear about in books, movies, or documentaries revolve around combat actions.
It takes about seven men or women, to support one man in the field. I was one of those seven. The Army was so concerned about our safety, the Marine division, in the compound next to ours, had orders to get us out safely or take us out. They were not to let us be captured.
One professional critic considered my credibility in question b

Review: The author explained well what daily life was like being an United States Army Security Agency soldier in Vietnam as well as Germany. The Army Security Agency (ASA) was a military intelligence organization capable of intercepting other countries communications especially those transmitted in International Morse Code. The author organized the book in chronological order, but simply jumps from one moment to the next and doesn't really collect time-periods into groups. So that makes it more like reading a moment-by-moment description of several years of soldiering. Yet, if you want to know about the ASA during that time, and that although the ASA was a very elite organization requiring a 4-year commitment with rigorous intellectual training, this book will give you one perspective on it. (Note - the ASA still exists today but is called "The United States Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM)."

Review: To diagnose job of making an interesting job and assignment seem awfully boring. I too was in ASA from 1971 to 1980. While Ron did tactical intelligence, I did strategic intelligence and for me it was real interesting, exciting at times, and even fun. Still, this memoir brought back fond memories of those times fighting the Cold War in Germany, Alaska, and at Fort Devens! Way to Go Ron.

Review: I found this book sometimes funny , and a realistic view of the day to day operations of a Army Security Agent. I served in the A.S.A. and can say most of what Mr. Griffith says is true . I was the very last ASA member to work at his first duty station , in Bad Abling ; It was my first duty station as well. Mr. Griffith tells about the school at Fort Devons. Mass; I loved that school , and enjoyed reading about it! Thats where we learned the name someone gave to our shoulder patch ; He was lightning fast! ; Incidentally , Mr. D.L. Clark , author of the book," Braveheart" , told me he also had attended Fort Devons ; I would recomend this book to anyone wanting to read about the Agency, and to those who served , I say Read this book!!!

Title: .0 out of 5 stars This one lives down to the title.

Review: This one lives down to the title. It's poorly written or intended for Middle School students and it badly needs an editor who can eliminate the repetitions and smooth out the awkward phrasing. it is also burdened with excessive technical details about intelligence methods that are still being used and a potential security violation. The narrative itself would be interesting of the author had written about the emotional context and linked it the then-current events. Instead the Tet Offensive and the capture of the Pueblo are passed off as remote events without significance and no mention is made of the death of Tom Davis, for many years considered the first American solider killed in Vietnam and a member of ASA. Finally lacking enough imagination to make the tale interesting, the author pads it out with the letters he wrote home to his mother. Three stars as a research source. None otherwise. .

Title: .0 out of 5 stars I thoroughly enjoyed the book and even read his letters home section

Review: Mr. Griffith provided a living memory of life as an 05H with a humorous flair. His tour(s) that included Germany gave him a unique insight how the Army treated it's operators. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and even read his letters home section; SP5 Griffith was a true ASA man. Oh. I didn't find VietNam boring but I wasn't in the ASA for my last year and that was my fault; wished I hadn't screwed up.

Review: Served in Phu Bai with the 8thRRFS myself and although I was in the Comm Center there were so many things in here that I had forgotten about. Probably has a limited reader audience but worth reading even given some minor issues with editing.

Review: To be frank...it has been a number of months ago that I actually read this book...along with a number of others regarding the Vietnam War, and cannot remember it exactly, but I'm sure it added to my knowledge of that unpopular war.
