Review: Several examples don't work, either in edge cases and sometimes the general case. In addition, a handful of examples don't compile; it's hard to imagine the authors verified their code when I spotted these issues during a casual read (I verified the compilation errors manually with gcc-7.3.0).Furthermore, this book has little to do with performance. There are good tidbits (e.g., use better algorithms), but overall this book felt more like a primer to modern C++ best practices than something performance based. I'm willing to accept I'm not the target audience (I'm the kind of nerdy that watches Cppcon videos within hours of them going online), but I'd still have a hard time recommending this book. This book would be much better suited for a person coming from C++98 and trying to learn the new methods and features; the authors do a good job at least touching on many areas of modern development.

Review: It's a good 'intro' book for those who know c++ but haven't yet dived deep into high performance programming.I felt that this book reached broad enough to touch on each of the fundamentals (cache optimisation, parallelism, memory access pattern, etc)Though those subjects weren't elaborated too deeply, it was enough depth for me to look up more information online that expand on those subjects.Given this book is fairly cheap compared to other books on the same subject, this is an ideal intro book to familiarize yourself with what's involved in high performance design using c++.

Review: There's nothing wrong with a beginner's c++ book but this one is trying to be something more. The title gives the impression that there is something in this book for experienced c++ developers. There really isn't much in that respect. An honest title would be something like "A Beginner's Guide to Modern C++" or something like that. There are a few pages on high performance c++ and improving application cache performance but this isn't worth the price of admission for experienced developers. There are better guides with more material on actual measurement and benchmarking. See for example any of the profiling books by Brendan Gregg.

The ability of the authors to explain complex concepts with clarity using examples is commendable.I would have loved to see some coverage of polymorphic allocator(PMR) in the memory management chapter( Chapter - 7).
