Title: Helpful in many ways. Lacking in some.

Review: The book is an easy read and contains plenty of useful information. It is certainly well intentioned as one can never have too much information regarding ones rights. I can't help but believe from personal experience that if you are completely innocent. Have not committed a crime or infraction. Do not have contraband such as drugs, stolen goods, weapons, etc in your vehicle, then the best path is to cooperate. Don't throw around your knowledge of your rights or attempt to antagonize the police. You don't have to kiss anyone's a.. but being sincerely respectful will immediately improve your encounter.
I can give a personal example for what its worth. One night at approx 2 am I was driving home and took a shortcut through an area known for drugs and prostitution. Being white, I probably looked out of place and was pulled over by a black female police sargent. She asked if I knew why I was pulled over and I respectfully stated that I wasn't sure. She said the only reason I had for being in this area was procuring drugs or sex.
I respectfully told the officer that I didn't do drugs and due to a recent operation, sex was out of the question.
The officer asked if I minded if she searched my car. As a completely innocent person, I said no problem. The search was performed and of course my car was clean. The officer then asked permission to search my body. Again, I was clean so why not. The officer was now satisfied that no crime had been committed and my car and body were clean.
The point is, I could have argued and thrown around my rights. I could have claimed I was profiled because I was stopped solely because I was white driving in a drug and prostitution area at 2 am. But, as an innocent person, how would this have helped me? If you're truly innocent with nothing to hide, the simple path is to eat your pride and walk away healthy.
In any case, guilty or innocent it will only help your cause to be respectful when invoking your rights and communicating with law enforcement

Review: This is an excellent interesting book to help people understand their constitutional rights. Some of the interesting information that the author of the book claims and mentions in this book is as follows: Under the majority of state laws, a person can be prosecuted for resisting arrest even if the arrest was unlawful if the person knew the individual trying to make the arrest was a police officer. Whether the police officer is using excessive force isn't determined on the scene, but in retrospect. If you say you want to remain silent, the police officer legally has to stop questioning you. If you start speaking to the police about the case voluntarily, they can legally start asking you questions again. The act of speaking to a police officer asking if you could use the restroom and where it is doesn't automatically restore to the police legal rights to interrogate you. If you are in custody and have requested an attorney, the police are legally required to stop speaking to you about the case immediately.

Review: I enjoyed the book. The information was correct. I'm neither an attorney nor a law enforcement officer, but I am a student of history, the Constitution, and our unalienable rights. It was worth the read although I would have preferred more specifics. If you are new to the subject, you will gain valuable insights. Overall, a good read and a buy signal from me.

Review: A great book to read and use as a reference. I wish this was taught to kids in the inner city schools, that will undoubtedly have an encounter at some point in their life, simply because they live in an over policed environment. This is simply the most well written book to provide guidance and insight into rights we must not be afraid to use and learn.

Review: Pretty good guide to know what the changing laws are and as it relates to law enforcement. The power of law enforcement is every changing. The rights we thought we have, we do not. Any day, this Supreme Court can interpret the law that seems to strip us citizens of our right. Next year, M`s Coats, who has such passion for the law, gave it straight in her book. However, I came away thinking that we have given law enforcement who can be the most abusive in our society too much power and we the people need to change that. They are here to serve not abuse their power. That is up to us to make those changes.
